The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by it slef but the wrod as a wlohe.

    Try it, mord. Some words harder than others.

    "Wilhe the dael areged last yaer esvganied the tfnsraer of lnad wtroh 7886 miiolln Mr Dseempy said lsat nihgt the Govnrnmeet had rceetjed ehgit prteoieprs veulad at 10 million but of no use to the..."

    Hm.
    Things like abbreviations get pretty screwed though. :)

    Excellent ideas here for me. I've to write technically for a living, and I think these programs could jazz stuff up....

    WORD ENDINGS
    Actually word endings are not that important if you are looking for the history of a word. many accents screw up the ends of words
    eg: Ballyfermah, Bunrahy Casel...

    NOTE: The sounds of words have changed a lot over time..

    VOWEL SHIFTS
    The biggest sound change in words was the great vowel shift - this is the main reason we can't read ye olde english easily and continental languages seem to use strange pronunciations to pronounce thier vowels.

    http://alpha.furman.edu/~mmenzer/gvs/what.htm - look at the arrows

    CONSONANT SHIFTS

    http://www.encyclopediaofauthentichinduism.org/articles/22_the_proto_germanic.htm
    ... the two ‘consonant shifts,’ one of the 6th century and the other before the Christian era, and described his principles that sound change is a regular phenomena. For example, he says that ancient unvoiced p, t, k became f, th/d, h, in Old Germanic and f, th, h, in English; and ancient voiced bh, dh, gh, became p, t, k, in Old German and voiced b, d, g in English. Similarly he also gave examples of Latin, Greek and Gothic etc., and also squeezed in some Sanskrit words telling the change of consonants, like: ‘padas’ (Sanskrit), ‘podas’ (Greek), ‘pedis’ (Latin) and ‘fotus’ (Gothic); it all means ‘foot.’

    5 jumbles later...

    Aoricdcng to aa rheccrseah at an Einglsh uvnseriity it dnesot mtaetr in what oderr the leretts in aa wrod are the olny itpenormt tihng is taht fisrt and last letter is at the rhgit pclae The rest can be aa total mess and you can sltil raed it wuhotit porlebm This is bsuceae we do not raed every lteetr by it self but the wrod as aa wlohe

    PROGRAMMING PROJECT.
    This would be a lot better if they kept the letter positions for big/little letters and kept all the up/ down or round letters together.
    maybe used shapes for pairs of letters.. eg: el <--> d

    round = a c e o r s u x z
    up / down = m n r u v w x

    d <--> round + l/t/f
    b k <--> l/t/f + round
    also p q g

    Or just measure the length of flats between the letters that poke up / down and whether the letters in between are round or have vertical or diagonal strokes..

    Interesting to note that when printing started all the letters had little squiggly things (esp. g) these were supposed to make it easier to ID the letter...

    ehm, you seem to be missing the point.
    the first & last letters have to be the same as the original words.
    your post & sig is just a jumbled mess

    I like jumbly stuff.

    Strangely enough, it's 5am and I could read that sentence really easy.
