The BBC just announced that Johnny Cash has died.
Singer Johnny Cash, one of country music's most enduring stars, has died in the US aged 71. Cash died in hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, his manager said. He had recently suffered a stomach complaint and spent time in hospital.

He was without a doubt one of the greatest musical figures of the last century, and was still hard at it to the end (just look at the 7 nominations he got at this year's VMAs).

    Ar dheis De a anam.

I bought his greatest hits a few months back. it's one of my favourite albums. Strange that - A die hard Metallica fan like me liking someone like JC. That's how good he was. Great singer, great musician. He will be missed.

He did some of his greatest work (IMO) in recent years with his American I, II, III and IV albums. Great cover versions of some real classic tunes. My personaly favorite being his version of Nick Caves "The Mercy Seat".

Anyone catch The Frames tonight on The Dunphy Show? They performed "Fake" but paid tribute to Johnny by working "Ring of Fire" into the end of the song.

    He will be missed.
