Has anyone else seen Panther Mac OS 10.3 yet?

I got a Dev copy a month ago, and I sad to say I don't like it. Ya Ya, I knows it a Dev copy and it'll probably be alot different when it's finish in the autumn/winter. It just feels very clumsy compared to Jaguar 10.2. The new finder don't fell right. I do like Expose and a few other bits, but 10.2 is still better.

    Just my opinion...

    What build is it Kenz?

Current build is 7B59 as of 6th Sept, with builds coming with increasing frequency as GM approaches.

    shabbyroad, are you listening?

7A179.... Much difference in the later 7B59 builds?

Have you heard solid ship date for Panther? I haven't talked to Apple (US) for a few weeks so I don't know.

Dunno Kenz, I haven't seen Panther at all except for some screen shots. But judging from the build numbers, there's probably been many changes since the release you're looking at. There's a lot of discussion over on usenet in uk.comp.sys.mac & comp.sys.mac about how sweet & snappy it is...

    Time will tell.

As regards the release date, nobody but Apple knows... but it would seem that expo Paris on Sept 16th would be a good bet.

HughChal, I hope you're not under NDA talking about current builds on public fora.

I am under NDA and to Kanz's first question I can answer only "Yes".

Fair enough. I'm on the Customer Seed and there's often talk about security there.

    Re the finder...

I'm new to MacOS, only got my first mac last month, and by far and away the worst part of it is the finder. I'm mostly a keyboard person, and it makes very little sense to me. I hit v to go to all items beginning with v. Then I hit it again, and the order of items is completely reversed. I hit return to open something, and I end up renaming it (I know, it's apple + O, but I don't consider that logical, I open documents far more than I rename them). For all of its crudiness, I feel that Windows Explorer remains the best file manager around.

For that reason, I'm quite looking forward to Panther in that respect, it looks like the finder has been changed quite a bit.

Bar the finder, I quite like it.

I find myself using 'column view' a lot, which is a little more Windows Explorery. Have you tried column view?

It does make it a bit better alright.

Still isn't too snappy, but sure, hopefully panther will improve that a bit further.

There was nothing in his post that either suggested he had seen an NDA covered build or contravened any sensible NDA.

One can only assume you just needed to get your spoke in and declare that you are in on the beta - I hope thats not a contravention of the nda :)

Hardly, Dustaz. On the Customer Seed there has been concern about leaks, and about Apple's good will making Customer Seeds available. Yes, I'm seeded. No, I didn't need to crow about it. (I'll crow when Panther is released, perhaps.) Actually it's not much a surprise that a Unicode um geek like myself is seeded, now is it?
