Kerr needs to learn a few things

I know that there are some related threads but I wanted to go into some other issues
Firstly I think Duffer on the right, Kilbane on the left (my god has he improved I mean he looked ten times better than Reid in the last 2 games)

Then let morrisson and Connolly fight it out for the position beside Keane. I would like to see Kerr judge the players on their form for their clubs before the Switz game rather than what they have done for national side in the past.

Strikers form is everything if there not scoring for their club chances are there lacking confidence and won't score for Ireland.

And Kerr needs to learn two lessons damn quick.

    1. Gary Doherty is NOT a center Forward. He's ok to throw on for corners and high balls with 10 minutes to go if we'r losing but starting him up front is crazy

    2. Chelsea paid 17 million for left sided winger called Damien Duff but somehow Brian Kerr seems to think he's a striker. On saturday I lost count at how many times duff recieved the ball with 2 defenders standing right behind him and all he could do is lay it off. When he was able to run at the defence he scored

Is Kerr wrong to be playing players out of psosition 6 votes

No - He should continue to play players out of position

Yes - He should play players in their natural position

You pick the best players you have in each position and play them in position. Its not that difficult Bill[/Gilsey]

Firstly, Starting duffer up front against russia was a bright option. Would you have preffered a morrison/doherty pairing?

And the turkey match was a friendly, they're meant to be matches where you try out new things.

I Think Duff would have created a lot more problems if he was on the wing and I think connolly and Morrisson should have started up front.

As I said much too often on saturday Duff recieved the ball with 2 defenders right behind and he couldn't run at them which is what he does best.

And what happens to the man of the match, Kilbane?

Thats the wrong attitude we should have beaten russia and I think we could have if he had played the right team.

These two posts are from the same person! Isn't putting duff on the right wing playing him out of position?
    :confused::confused::confused:

Right/free role is still midfield where he can run at players not CF where everytime the ball comes to his feet he has his back to goal with 2 defenders behind him. Understand?

I would personally like to see him on the left but once he's on a wing and can do what he does best I think Ireland will benefit

I thought Duff played well last night on the right with a free role but it is not very safe. It is leaving the whole wing open if he is running around. I've seen him playing on the right once or twice for Chelsea and he's not very impressive. In my opinion playing him on the right is more out of postion then up forward as he has to stop the ball and tun before he crosses.

Ah come on how many times have you seen duff dribble past a defender and drive into the box, he doesn't cross that often. Anyway playing up front means our best player is out of position and that is not a good thing, Duff should be able to run at players end of story.

Once Keane is back we can concentrate on the left wing.
You got O Shea, up to Duff, into Keane Goal.
    Rinse and repeat :)

yea but look at the "quality" that we have beaten, and most wins were friendlies.

kerr should have played his starting line up against switzerland against turkey, for a half anyway. he should have known before that match what team he was going to play against the swiss.

i HATE to say it, but i dont fancy our chances of winning in Basle

We'd get more value out of Gary Docherty if we melted him down for glue.

Duff is Irelands only compensation for not having anything that even resembles creativity from central midfield.

Holland ,Healy ,Kinsella are 1st division midfielders who get nose bleeds when they have to pass the ball forward.
Playing Duff in the centre alleviates their ineffectiveness with his skill and vision.
Keane also does that but alas is injured.

Kerr is doing the right thing just hampered by a bad selection of central midfielders.

Stan and quinn are bigger loses to this team than most people give them credit for.
Although Quinn and Doherty are in the same mold, I think Quinn was an infinitely better player.
Give Doherty a chance though, he's very young and could very well be a hero for the country in years to come. As far as I know I think he only decided to concentrate on the forward position recently.

Well, Given, O'Shea, Holland and Lee Carsley* were all injured. Cunningham was injured but he is suspended anyway and Keane as we all know is injured. The only player I didn't see on the pitch that could have played and probably will was Stephen Carr.

He has decided to concetrate on playing centre back which he is more suited to.

Listening to most pundits and fans who didnt know much about Kerr sickens me, simply because he never went to England and became a top manager like Mc Carthy and Charlton <sarcasm> doesnt mean he isnt up to the job.

He has a proven track record at club and youth international level and he will get Ireland playing to their best, look at England last night and see the most disjointed football team ever to walk out on a pitch.
Great having lots or PL stars playing shame they cant play together.

Kerr will if given the chance get Ireland to their best but i doubt the FAI or media will allow him, if they had their chance Joe Kinnear would be in by now.(Kerr was a cheaper option for the FAI)
Hopefully this season a decent central midfielder will pop up.

Just want to say that I'm right behind Kerr but as my thread title says he needs to learn a few things, and I hate when people say things like "Listening to most pundits and fans who didnt know much about Kerr sickens me" it sickens me.

Don't persume people know nothing or less than you, I know Kerr's track record well I've even met the man a few times through a family member being involved in the school of excellence.
