Okay i have been trying to install Redhat 9 on my laptop but after i hit enter to start things up it just loads the OHCI.... driver and then stops and leaves me with the Redhat 9 installation screen (the blue one).

Now i have tried to different sets of installation cd's. A burnt set and a set from a book. So i don't think it is hte CD's.

Also i have used Knoppix and that has no problems at all loading onto my lap top.

My Lap top is a Advent 7017. Has any one else had this problem???

I'm thinking it might just be Redhat and i will try a Mandrake or Debian etc and see if they work at all.

    Thanks in advance.

So let me get this straight, you've booted up from the first CD, you specify graphical installation, and then it hangs. If that's so then it can't auto detect your display adapter. A mate of mine in college had the same problem with his laptop.

Another guy couldn't get it to detect his plasma screen.

Have you tried doing a text based install. But I'm guessing that it has something to with detecting your display adapter anyway.

Will have to give the text based install a shot then.

    Nope, that didn't work either.

Hmmm will the install another shot later.

Seems to me like it could be a usb subsystem problem

ohci is a controler for usb

you might try to get the kernel not to load the uhci driver as you wont need it for an install. might i suggest google to help you do this.

uhci is an alternative usb driver, give it a try

will give that a look as well. With some luck that will work.
May try a diiferent distribution if all fails in the end.
