    from today's indo IN BRIEF
back page (9/9/03 - city edition)

New light shed on mercy killers

    A REMARKABLE 30pc of
    so-called mercy killers in the
UK go on to commit suicide
    themselves, according to a
    report published yesterday.
    'The Quality of Mercy',
    journal collates all research
    about assisted suicide over
    the past ten years.

    =======================================
I can't find it on their web page (www.independent.ie)

Remember this is only 10 years ... not the persons full lifetime - to the real rate is of course higher - bearing in mind the vast majority of the population don't.

So is this because suicidal people are inclined to be "mercy killers" ? ( IMHO this would be extremely selfish,)

or is it a consience thing - does mercy killing make you suicidal ?

    or PTSD

    or Pressure ??

Does this tell us anything new about suicide ?

Makes an interesting argument against Euthenasia ..

What I would have thought would be most likely is that these people, who are advocates of euthenasia decide to use that option when their time is up. It makes no mention of how many of those 30% were dying (from cancer or whatever) and simply decided to end their own suffering - just like they have helped others to do.

I think this would probably do better in Humanities
so I'm going to move it over there
