According to DS there is a HDTV channel Broadcasting Now on
    Astra 1 (19.2E)
    12168 V
    SR 27500
    FEC 3/4
...that can be picked up on a normal FTA digital receiver.
I'm going to reposition my dish tonight and try it out.

Yep, receiving a signal. Showing as MPEG2 HD.

    Video PID: 0x0134
    Audio PID: 0x0100

My DVB software (which links to WMP) is off looking for a codec. Any ideas how to pass this signal to Media Player 9 or actually see it working?

Exciting stuff though. My HS10 (high res) projector loves hi-def stuff :) .

By definition a "normal" FTA receiver can't at all output HD TV.

    EVER.

I did remeber hearing that experimental HDTV was to start from a Netherland studio this Autumn. Now my Central Heating is on so it must be autumn.

I expect any "normal" PC based receiver can receive it if you can find new SW. The TV out (if built in) is no use, PC screen viewing or VGA to projector.

TV out ports will not do HDTV.

I don't think anyone in Europe sells a HDTV either.

The lower resolution video projectors (800 x 600) arn't good enough . You'll want a minimum of 1024 x 768 native pixels and ideally 1280 x 1024 native pixels to allow animorphic rescalling.

Some projectos only do 16:9 on regular PAL or NTSC and won't do it on the VGA in connector.
    Sad.

    What format HDTV is it?

(if it is the lowest american Progressive, that is good for 30 fps 480line interlaced US watchers of film but not much advance for 25fps 576line viewers).

    I'll explain why another time.

What software are you using? I've tried it with Watchtvpro and it's only giving me a blank screen.

Not having much joy I'm afraid :(

Getting a good signal. A scan of 12168 found "MPEG2 HD" but I've as yet not managed to see/hear anything from it :(

Tried DVB Viewer & the other progs that come with EON/Netsystem.

EuroTV (EON's thingy) went off looking for a codec, seemed to get it but now says something like "this cannot be displayed, please update your drivers (graphics) or reduce your screen resolution" etc..

Come on Watty, you da man with all this stuff  1366x768 Sony HS10 projector here waiting for some:

    Resolution: 1920x1088 MPEG2 (24000kbps)

which is what's being broadcast

The test is working fine, but your problem could be that your pc isnt fast enough. I'm able to get picture an audio - barely - with my xp3200+ system, with progdvb using 100% of the processor - normally around 10 - 20% for other channels. I'm going to see if I can get a graph file to use the Intervideo codecs which should make use of the hardware accelleration on my graphics card, which is what people in the US viewing hdtv on progdvb have done.

    Working for you - that's great :)

What DVB card are you using? I run HD from the PC to my projector regularly - pretty fast machine. AMD @ 2.5gHz (225 FSB) so that's not the problem.

Software probably. Haven't used ProgDVB, off to find some info on it now.

Very interested in your findings of graphs etc...have a 9800 Pro so hardware acceleration would be great.

    Keep us posted :)

i had a go tuning this in on my digibox last night :D why did i bother but anyway, what i saw was what my digibox looks like for 10 minutes after powering it up. i had sound with a glitch every 2 seconds or so and some of the picture. they had classical music followed by some rock concert. also, if you tune in using a Sky Digibox you must reset it when going back to regular use

After tweaking all evening with various bits of software, tonight I'm enjoying, for the first time an perfect HD-TV signal from Euro1080 on my PC.

ProgDVB wouldn't play it correctly at all.
DVB Portal seems to be the only program that actually supports it officially (it meantions 1080 on their homepage). http://www.dvbportal.de/
You must update the SkyAVC.ax file (available here) in the "filters" folder in DVB portal once you've installed the program.
I selected the CyberLink (comes with PowerDVD installation) video & audio codecs then to decode the stream. These seem to be the most stable for the job and support HD-TV properly.

It's been playing now for about an hour without a glitch and it's looking very well to me, I must say on my TFT screen. I would imagine a HD-TV projector must yield extremely impressive pictures as I'm sure a small screen doesn't do it full justice.

I'm using an AMD XP2800+ w/512mb ram, with CPU load running about ~65% during HD-TV playback using the SkyStar 2 PCI card.

    Best of luck tuning in!
    David.

    David.

David would you happen to know if the skystar one would be of any use for this?

    Thanks

    Tony,

From what I understand, since SkyStar 1 cards have hardware decoding, the codec which is built in to the card cannot be changed and hence will not support HD-TV.

Apparently it is the same for people who wish to view 4:2:2 DVB broadcasts.. Since Sky Star 2 is software based, it is somewhat accomodating for these different broadcast standards.

I haven't myself tested a SkyStar1 card to be certain of it's incompatability, but this seems to be the jist going around various DVB forums.

Apparently, it takes aprox. 9gb/hour hdd space to record this super high resolution baby @1920 x 1088!

The Skystar1 / Hauppauge Nexus/ Technotrend Premium can be used two ways:

    1) Use in Data mode as if a Skystar2 type card.

    2) The "codec" is actually loaded into the texas DSP chip at card initialiasation. An HD TV app will work if there was one. There isn'tr yet.

    Problems:

    1) Resolution:
1920x1088 in WS Anamorphic so a "square" pixel device such as LCD Projector, DLP projector and most PC screens (some DELL and Toshiba laptops have close to 16:9 LCD screens) needs a LOT more vertical lines to show all the original resolution (with top and bottom black bar) About 1920 x 1450 on a 4:3 screen is needed.

    2) Speed:
This is TEN times the data rate of say TCM. So any SW based PC solution needs to be TEN times OVERALL performance of typical minimum to do DVB or DVD smoothly. i.e. if a 400MHz Pentium is a minumum for good SW MPEG2 playback of normal TV, a full quality of the HDTV would need a 4GHz PC really.

This is designed for Cinema really, not home use.
