If it's taekwondo you're pretty much screwed :) What i would do is learn a small part of it really well and pray that it's what they ask you...

I found with my grading it was generally just common knowledge questions.

But depends what you are practising.

    Sorry mate.

Sorry but he is posting a load off rubbish forum suggestions in Feedback / Suggestion aswell.

Unless he proves himself that he isn't trolling about then the warning sticks.

If he wants to post here he should also stick to the Forum rules. Which again means stay on topic and no posting rubbish.

I know some thread always go off topic but rainbow kirby was looking advice and doesn't need any time wasters.

Hope you see my point but feel free to comment.

what kind of theory are you talking about? the names of the stances, blocks, kicks etc?

I have made a habit of as I run through the patterns, I name the the movement I am performing. When it comes to grading you'll have no problems knowing what you're talking about.

Sort of.. for a green belt grading for example you would have to know:
    -The tenets of TKD
    -The oath of TKD
    -An explanation of chon-ji, dan-gun and do-san
    -What yellow and green signify

Although sometimes they ask you the korean for something and you have to know it.. or what part of your arm/leg you use to do a certain move..

Well for quite a few MA you need to know theory to pass you grading for the higher belts.

Fair enough if you know how to performe a certain throw/lock/kick but you also need to know which one would be best suiteable in certain situations.

I got a small theory test for my yellow belt in Ju Jitsu. I was somehow suprised by this but it was really general knowledge. But as the belts get higher the questions get harder.
Plus you also need to know the names of the throws in the language the MA originates from as sometimes they relate to the throw/kick/lock in that language.

All the theory you need is on http://www.inta.ie/
I think it's better to buy the book though

Any good instructor will have been giving you the theory on handouts as you go along. We've built up a folder of handouts with all the Korean terms, meanings, patterns etc.

If you don't have one, get hold of a good TKD book and make out sheets for yourself of the stuff you need to learn.

if you are studying taekwon-do you can get the student handbook from the rita for €7/off of your instructor. you're best off learing your techniques from the beginning of each grade and learn it over time before you're grading.
