Any predictions on the match tonight?

I think another draw is on the cards, at best, for Ireland.

    I'd say

    Colgan
    Finnan
    Breen
    O'Brien
    Harte
    Duff
    Kinsella
    Healy
    Kilbane
    Doherty
    Connolly

    to start.

I think team will be ...

    Colgan

    Finnan Breen O'Brien Harte

    Reid Kinsella Holland Duff

    Connolly Doherty

My prediction would have to be a turkey win but Ireland might stretch a draw.

Well done that man!! That's the team that Kerr's going with!

My prediction.....I reckon it'll be an open match with a few goals.....3-2 I'd say, although to who I don't know!! My head is telling me Turkey.....ummmm Tuuuurkey......but my heart is telling me Ireland.......so I'll go 3-2 to Ireland!!!

Kerr named his team at lunchtime and you came straight onto the boards to pretend that this would have been your choice!:D :D:D:D

Anyway, I can't see Ireland pulling off a win but I can see O'Brien making a big impression. Duff has been given a free role so he is not going to be playing on the left for the whole match as it says here . I really hope Connolly plays well and Doherty doesn't play as good because I don't want to see Doherty play against the Swizz.

Emm no, the team wasn't to be released til after 1pm, I still haven't heard it yet.

In fact just looking, RTE only updated their site with it at 2.58pm and its still not on the indo site.

Get your facts straight before you shoot someone down.

I got the result right too! Did I "pretend" on that one?

Was at the game and it was better than I'd expect for a friendly.

Kerr isn't just a lucky manager, he's blessed.

Connolly was excellent, his link-up an distribution was class, Healy was mediocre again (McPhail should have been given longer, he threw in some good tackles and passing).

Doherty just isn't a striker and Harte just isn't a defender or an international player. Really we either need O#shea in, or better yet, Finnan on the left.

Oh, and finally.. to all the so-called "fans" who left the match in the 87th minute... HA HA

Doherty should be shot! He was woeful. The rest of the team played quite well. Doherty was ****. We still didnt have much creativity in the midfield. The turks looked very good on the ball when they had it. I expect them to beat England.

    I don't think so.

If thats the case then you are only counting up to the 89th minute or whatever as there was injury time in the first half.

after 90 minutes means up until the end of the second half. Injury time just represents the time the game was stopped during each period.

Blessed is right - our equaliser seemed to make a lot of contact with Irish arms before being smacked home. In addition their goal shortly after that was unlucky to be disallowed.

Was a good game but I really hope they play better against England:D
I don't think that they had their best team on the pitch at any one point. Luckily it's the same for us - we'll be improved with O'Shea, Cunningham, Keane and others.

Are you for real??? Please tell me you're joking!!!!

I think I was closest with the result though!! :p

I reckoned the final result would be 3-2 but couldn't call which side it would be (well nearly!!). Now considering that there was a goal disallowed for each side, I reckon my guess was quite good!!!

I suppose if I used the logic applied by sjones I might be able to go into Paddy Powers today and get some money off them, because after all I did "nearly" predict the score and I did "nearly" put a bet on!! I'll let y'all know how I got on!! :D

we won't have cunningham for the Swiss game though.

We could play Andy O' BigNose instead of Kenny, or move O' Shea inside and play Harte for the whole game. I think if Reid is playing from the start we won't need 'Arty's dead ball skills as much, so drop him to the bench

    Sweet Jeebus No!!!!!!

Did you see Harte in the match last night??!!

Fitness allowing, on the basis of the last two matches and knowing Kerr isn't going to make wholesale changes so theres no point in wishing, I'd go for the following.

    Given
    Carr
    Breen
    O'Shea
    Finnan
    Duff
    Holland
    Kinsella/Healy
    Kilbane
    Morrison
    Keane

    Reasoning:
Healy has been mediocre at best so I'd prefer Kinsella, at least he tacked last night. Reid just hasn't done it in the last two matches, did he got maybe one cross in last night? Duff did far better on the right and I don't think Finnan cuts it there. Finally, I think Morrison's style of play will compliment Keanes more than Connolly.

Healy has been crap since he started with ireland. Overrated i say! OVERRATED!@#

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 950 ✭✭✭nasty_crash

im sorry i disagree healy has been a revealation!! remember he hasnt been playin football until bout 3 weeks ago when he signed for sunderland!! I think healy should be in the starting 11 alongside kinsella, with duff on the right and kilbane on the left - reid has been very dissapointing since signing for blackburn!! finnan didnt have a great game but id say kerr would like to try him on the left but i dont think he'll chance it in such an important game as the swizz match!!

    Given
    Carr
    O' Shea
    Breen
    Harte
    Duff
    Healy
    Kinsella
    Kilbane
    Keane
    Connolly

Thats the team id like to see him play!! the swizz defenders are too slow!! we should look at gettin the ball on the ground and playin around them!!

Whats going on kilbane looks very impressive of late!!!

I think my back four would be

    Finnan--Breen--O'Brien--O'Shea

i think finnan played better last night than carr did on saturday. Why do we have 2 excellent right backs, and on the left have to choose between playing someone out of position or Ian Harte??
Anyone know who's our under-21 LB?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 353 ✭✭IgnatiusJRiley

    Given
    Carr - Breen - O'Shea - Finnan

    Duff - Kinsella - Healy - Kilbane

    Keane - Morrison

Holland is muck. Morrison is also muck but there aren't really any other options as Connolly is too light-weight to partner Keane.

    Switzerland 3 - Ireland 0

Morrison is a great player! He just had three people on him against the ruski's. I agree with your scoreline though.

Sorry not true. What they mean by 90 mins is the whole game + injury time.

What they are really saying here is that if it was the type of game to go into extra time or penalties then whatever the score was at the final whistle is considered the result.

i never liked connoly simply because he doesn't score goals for ireland.
On that performance last night though he was like Duff II.
Give him some more viagra and let him loose along with keane AND Duff against the swiss.
Some messing around to be done behind , but we need to attack in that game.

Finnan had a very good game last night and he probably to only Irish player that can use both feet perfectly. He was always a left sided player throughout his career so there is no problem there but I don't think he'll play against the swizz because O'Shea is very good and kerr loves him.

Also, there is no way you can drop Carr, he is so aggressive and a super tackler. He is a proper defender and goes up forward an awful lot. He can also cross the ball very well as he takes a lot of Spurs' free kicks.

Its just confidence. A lot of people don't understand how much confidence plays a part in a players performance. Now Harte has a problem with confidence and thats is why he played so bad once again last night.

BTW wasn't it very funny how everyone cheered after the Turkish keeper cought the ball for the first time and every time after that. His confidence must have been in ruins and I'd say it was really embarrassing. Good atmosphere though seen that there was only about 25,000 and it was such a drowsey day but I don't like the way the Turkish fans sang there national anthem louder than us. Learn the words lads!;)

Yeah, I was there last night and it was absolutely hilarious!! :D
The poor guy had to be subsituted in the end!! even though he was the only keeper out of "5" on the night that didn't conceed a goal!!!
But yeah, brilliant, football banter at it's best, it definitely beats all that booing malarky, but hey, we won't get into that again!!!

Totally agree there and for anybody that doesn't know it yet...tutt, tutt!!! You can learn it here
