Modem trouble

This is probably some problem with the phone line or something like that but might as well see if anyone can help me...

Basically, I connect into Oceanfree usually for gaming. Its by far the best for gaming, nice low pings for 56k.
However, every so often, the connection will stop completely(no activity at all) for like 2-5 seconds, which obviously drives me mad when playing online. It does happen when surfing but I can notice it more when gaming.

Is there any kind of obvious solution to this, like maybe a modem setting incorrect or something like that?
