Eircom's DSL Rollout

I've been following Gombin's excellent info on newly enabled exchanges over at http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=110042 , but I can't understand what Eircom's strategy is. With no disrespect to the people who live there, some of the exchanges that are being enabled seem a little off the beaten track, while some obvious large population centres seem to be overlooked. For example, I'm from Kildare and within the county some of the major towns have been overlooked while more rural sites have gotten broadband.

Anyone know what Eircom's Big Idea is? Do they have to meet targets for number of exchanges enabled, so they're concentrating on the smaller ones? Do they even have a strategy???

The point is actually address in the thread you quote.

Some of the exchanges don't have the physical room for the DSL equipment.

100,000 DSL enabled lines by end 2004. Thats about 6% of all analogue lines. Phil Nolan said so in the Sunday papers last month as you may recall.

That's a goal, not a strategy. Or perhaps that was your point. :)
