    Should be OK on 80cm

What kind of receiver you using?

While 6W is about highest point for a dish in the midlands the tilt at 30W will drop down again to not much different to Sky 28.2, but with opposite Skew of LNB angle

If the dish is on a polar mount (manual or motorised) then only East/West movement is required as the offset angle of pole and dish on pole will "automatically" appear to tilt the dish up/down and change the skew angle.

check www.lyngsat.com and make sure a transponder is tuned.

On Digibox only Services 4 0 1 Select then manual tuning and leave up signal bar may work (Don't press for scan till a bar appears).. A Digibox is very hard to use for this.

Using skystar2 card on the pc. I have been trying to align my dish with hipsat by using my analogue receiver which is meant to have hipsat channels programmed into it, but i havent had any luck yet.
The dish is attached to the back of my house- not motorised so i have to climb up a ladder to change it.

Unless the analog receiver has a signal meter (Very very few have) you won't really notice if you get the satellite. I don't think there is much analog on it.

My PC Sat card in Data Receiver mode has a voice signal level so I turn up the PC volume to hear signal level.

It is very hard to find Digital Satellites (or satellites where most of it is digital or the analog is low) without a signal meter.

An analog needle type with knob and beep is fine.

You adjust the knob to have needle roughly mid scale. When you find a satellite the beep is louder and needle moves up. Reduce needle back with knob to middle again to fine tune (peak) the dish.

The meter is powered by sat card or receiver so make sure you select below or above 11.7GHz and Vertical or Horizontal on your receiver for the part that has the most transponders, i.e. some satellite might be mostly 11.7GHz to 12.6 GHz Horizontal so selecting Vertical or a transponder 10.7 to 11.7GHz would give almost no signal on the meter, as the Sat meter ONLY shows one of the four possible signals from the LNB.

The only analogue channel on 30w is Canal+ Espana encrypted in nagravision (12591 H - http://www.lyngsat.com/hispa.shtml).Not much good for aligning a dish. The radio stations on the same transponder may be of more use.

Alt. use the Technisat Setup@PC program and 'Manual Tune' the details for one of the FTA digital channels (eg God channel: 11615 V, sr 27500, fec3/4). Then monitor the signal quality bar - should be able to get 50%+ with an 80cm dish. The quality meter is pretty responsive, but you'll still need a bit of patience.

Have you considered taking down the dish and aligning it at ground level?

dont think it would be worth the effort taking it down again, but thanks anyways for replying, i think i'll go back to astra

Canal Plus is in the clear at differnet times of the day

Mas Deporte at 13.30-14.00 Irish time also news at 20.30-21.00

when it's not in the clear you can still see a scrambled image.

    Best of luck with luck.

i have relations in spain and i was wondering if i got them to get me subscription for the canal+ deporte channels, would the card work over here with a digital receiver. They seem to show a lot more soccer matches than even sky. But would a 80cm dish be able to get the canal+ deporte channels if the card would work, as they are the only channels im really interested in getting.

With the subscription you'll get the channels once the dish is big enough. Remember though that the Digital+ package is also available via Astra 19 which should be easier to get in Ireland. Careful though with the registration your relatives do.

Canal Satellite and Via Digital have recently fused and as a result the package is available on both Astra 19 ( Canal Sat) and Hispasat (Via). However the two companies used different encryption so if you redirect a Via dish to Astra and try the Via decoder it won't work. This is also true the opposite way as well. It's not decided which satellite the new company will use in the future and it seems that for the moment the status quo will be maintained.
From what I know new installations are being pointed to Astra 19 as the company seems to have more of those receivers in stock. (I'll check for you and confirm) There is a current deal where registration and installation is currently at 50%, 45 Euro. So you would need to let the installation be set up in your relatives house and then when all is OK bring the card and box to Ireland. That is of course unless your relatives could find a friendly local supplier who would activate the card and box in their shop and let them take the box and card away directly.

Remember that the box isn't like Sky in that it's your after a year. You pay a monthly 8 Euro rental fee on top of the sub price.

As regards Canal Plus Deporte it's worth getting the Canal Plus Total pakage which includes the three sports channels and three film channels. The difference is only two Euro and it seems that some of the champion league games are going to be spread over theose channels as well.

Also with both installations the box allows you to watch most of the films in original version although for some reason there seems to be more on the Astra version installations.

I'm in Madrid so if there is anything you want me to check let me know.

You would be better off with a Nova subscription from Greece. They show most Sky football + 2 games at 3pm on saturday and always in English .The package is in Irdeto and brodcast from Hotbird at 13 deg east. They have also 3 movies channels and xxx hardcore nightly . They also show Spanish and Italian league.

The Sky Digibox is yours from day1, you just have to keep paying a sub for a year.

I thought you could get a box with CI and CAM for the spanish viewing card. Ask on alt.satellitetv.europe thus saving the box rental.

C+ Spain only sell subscriptions with their boxes .You can't walk into a shop and walk out with a viewing card .

I can't compare with other digital packages but with Digital Plus you have

5 Live Champions League Tuesdays and Wednesdays

    on Saturdays

3 Live Premiership (if early morning game)
    2 Live Bundesliga
    1/2 Live French League
    1 Live Italian League

    on Sundays

    2 Live Dutch League
    2 Live Premiership
    3 Live Italian

also 2 Live Argentinian games between Sunday and Monday

Sometimes Live Portguese Football as well.

Of course 1 Live Spanish game on Saturday and another on Sunday.

    Unfortunately all Spanish commentary.

Don't know if any other packages can beat it.

    that lineup is incredible

why don't Sky show live Bundesliga games  leave Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports News and show a live game on Sky Sports 1. what is the point in simulcasting when most subscribers have Sky Sports News now. all we get is a highlights show

Just been watching ManU and Arsenal with BBC 5 Live from the Digibox linked up to the HiFi and the Digital Plus picture on the TV. The two are sincronised perfectly with very very little if no delay.

Although if you have some Spanish their analysts are a hell of a lot better than Peter Schmeidchel.

Either way another option for people.
