For the past couple of weeks I was getting the message of death but yesterday on my V1 card the channels ITV, CH4 and CH5 permanently died. I'm now getting the message that I must telephone the following number if I want to subscribe to receive ITV, CH4 etc....... look s like SKY are turning off the cards. I also have a V2 card and that is fine........

    Don't think so.

Try leaving card in overnight. Maybe it missed a key if out of slot or box unplugged or on non-Sky "other channels!

Very strange! For almost a week now I have had no warning messages or interruption of any sort with my FTV V1 card. Just like the good old days :D

    Has anyone else experienced this?

All over Europe this is now experienced :D

Obviously some folks don't get Astra 2D reception.

When Sky finally switch off the P1 FTV cards, you will know about it.
There will be sooo much uproar in the UK that it will be hard to miss it. I think Sky are too scared about the 1 Million user backlash to even try. They have even stopped sending out the warning messages recently.

Not only that, but if you have a version 1 card which has been switched off, it might well be worth trying it again. Last night I put my old FTV card back in the slot. After about 5 minutes FIVE reappeared, after about 20 minutes Channel 4, and after about an hour ITV was back!

I had not subscribed to any packages since the card was switched off.

Maybe, just maybe, those old cards have been reprieved.

Must try this when I get home tonight. I'll let you know how I get on.

I have a V1 FTV card that was not used since March. Recently I connected up an old box and put in the card. After a bit of messing around all of the channels returned to the card and have been fine ever since. The card was married to a different box previously.

Tried this with a V1 card today, and got the message 'there is a problem with this viewing card etc'.

    BBCs all okay, obviously.

My V2 card has stopped the nag message, hope it stays that way.

What channels do you get other than ITV/Ch4/CH5 on the V1 card. Have been thinking of buying one for a couple of euros from ebay if there are extra channels to be got on the digibox with a V1 card.

Youd be fairly stupid to buy a V1 FTV card now seeing as there time of death is imminent, and youll be very hard pressed to get your hands on a V2 FTV card.
Even if you do, the only way you cana ctivate it now is through the phoneline which will alert SKY to the fact that you are in Ireland, so in short forget about FTV, it doesnt exist, or it shall we say in Limbo.

The ONLY channels left as FTV (as apposed to FTA = no card)
All ITV 1 (not ITV2 =it Pay TV, not ITV News= No card needed)
C4 for region on card (The six C4 differ only in Adverts)
    Five.

DONT SPEND ANY MONEY on any supposed P1 or P2 card.

If you are doing a Sky Sub, I suppose a UK sky sub is not a high risk to get ITV, C4 and Five.

If your phone is ex-directory or own number sending is switched off, will it be the case that Sky won't know where you are from, or does this not work when the box phones home??

Because you are tricking the box into thinking it is in the UK, by inserting a UK card it will try to ring a 0870 number, which won't work on an ROI phone.

It's not clever enought to say to it'self Hey Boss, whats the international code for the UK from here in ROI?
At least not that I know of anyhow:p

Just got a v1 card today from Ebay for 5 Euro - can now recieve all BBcs, Itv, Ch4, CH5.

Is it possible to get this secondhand card married to my digibox as I don't know what address it is registered to in the UK?

Is there anypoint in doing so i.e. will I get any extra free channels?

    Thanks

One way to ring Sky from the RoI without telling them where you are is by using a UK GSM Sim card in your mobile phone. This option isn't dirt cheap however, as the cheapest roaming cost from Ireland to the UK on a UK PAYG SIM card is on Vodafone (UK, not Ireland) at approx €1.10 a minute! However if you are that desperate, it is one way that it can be done.

I am not aware of any extra channels that you would get by marrying the card to the box. I only get the wrong card for the box message on one or two channels (ITV2 E4) and they wouldn't come through even if the card was married to the box.
