    Has anyone had any trouble configuring the netgear DG824M to work with netsource? Whenever I try to connect the it says that it has connected and then about 5 seconds later it is disconnected.

    I tried to do the following ->

    I didnt do the automatic setup
    clicked 'yes' to if I needed to login
    filled in the details given to me by netsource for username/password etc

    But its not working! Has anyone had any trouble like this before? Netsource tell me that I am not even getting to the router in there. Eircom tell me that the line is fine.

    Cheers

    I'm using the same router for eircom's radsl with no difficulty.

    Encapsulation = PPPoE
    Multiplexing = LLC Based
    VPI = 8
    VCI = 35

    If you want to post the rest of your settings here I'll compare them with my setup.

    Here is what I have ->

    Require logon : yes

    Encapsulation : PPPoE
    Login : xxxx
    Password : xxxx
    Primary DNS : 212.17.32.3
    Secondary DNS : 212.17.32.1
    Multiplexing : LLC-BASED
    VPI : 8
    VCI : 35

    Under 'Gateway Status' it tells me that I am using firmware version 1.2 Release 00. I tried to update this to Version 1.4 Release 05 but it doesnt seem to update.

    Ive emailed Netgear about it, I think the router might be messed up :(

    Cheers for help :)

    I was reading on the cs forum this morning that someone was having probs with the 1.4 firmware and he is using the 1.3 update no probs.
    It was a diff prob to your but it's just a suggestion that you could try it.

    I have the DG 814.
    No probs configuring it, but it continuously disconnects me.
    I spent nearly an hour on phone to their UK support line and they've eventually agreed to replace it.
    They emailed me the newest 4.9 (not available online) firmware in an effort to correct the problem.

    Anyway.. your settings look ok.
    Have you tried setting Idle Timeout to 0 ?

    Had to come into work for a while, will try to upgrade to 1.3 when I get home and then give it a go.

    Cheers for help :)

    Just managed to test firmware 1.3 release 03. Still no joy:(

    Rancid : I have that set at 0

    Im thinking it must be a problem with the router itself. Im going to borrow the Draytek Vigor 2600w (nice piece of kit, bit pricey though!) from work tomorrow and try it at home to see if it works. Ive emailed Netgear to see if they know anything.

    any more ideas?

    cheers

    It keeps saying that it is connected in the 'Gateway Status' screen, then disconnecting after about 5 seconds. It even tells me that upstream/downstream speed I have. When I click on the 'Wan Status' button, when it is connected, it tells me that it is 'waiting for data'!

    Anyone know what this means? There doesnt seem to be any logs to let me see what it is exactly doing :(

    Have you tried removing the dns?

    I have the same setup and have never had to enter
    the dns server addresses..

    p2p : yup tried without the DNS, no joy.

    Ive emailed support in Netgear to see what they have to say. Ive updated the firmware testing to see if it would work as I went along, but still didnt work. There must be something wrong with the router itself :(

    Ah well, will wait and see what they say.

    Cheers

    Did you disconnect your router from the internet when you were updating the firmware?
    Seems you can get faulty installs if you don't....

    Also try resetting it using the reset button on the back, after the install. Then plumb in all your settings and start over.

    Heh... well.. that was the advice the Netgear support guy gave *me* ... before he decided to send me a replacement router! :)

    I have the DG824M, it's working just fine for me with Netsource. If you like, PM me with your mobile number and I'll call you tonight and we can make sure all your settings are the same as mine.

    *Edit. I bought two of these, and one was faulty. I also had problems with firmware 1.4 (1.3 is perfect). Once I got over these hurdles, I've had no problems. Ping & download rates are fantasic. :)
