Best ADSL??

Sorry, this is a bit lazy, I should really do a search, but hey, I'm feeling lazy....

Now that the dust has kinda settled on the whole introduction of 'cheap' ADSL, is there a general concensus as to which provider has the best service?.

Personally, the way I feel about it is - Eircom (hiss - get the crucifix and garlic), Esat - they've lied to me on my doorstep (sir, I can assure you there is no cap on our residental ADSL service), whereas I've been using UTV for the last 2 years (now on their 180 hour package) with absolutely no probs. However, stories abound that their ADSL is slow to install and generally slow...

Any comments/advice/suggestions would be most appreciated before I take the relatively expensive plunge.

    Cheers.

    are you in Dublin?

if you are, it's really gonna be worth your while to wait another 2 months. this is why:

www.irishbroadband.ie are just starting trials of a new wireless technology called Ripwave which is along the same lines as other wireless services, but without the problems accociated with distance and signals being weakened by buildings and other obstructions.

it's a technology that has been developed by www.navini.com in the US, and will allow signals to be sent/received up to 5km from the wifi base station.

IBB already have 1 basestation upgraded to Ripwave, and will be rolling it out accross Dublin initially, then all over Ireland.

so if you are in Dublin and can keep your wallet in your pocket for a couple of months you'll be able to use Ripwave, which will allow you to have a cap free service that you could quite easily take with you anywhere (assuming you ave a laptop).

more info can be found here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?threadid=113029&goto=newpost and at the two links above.

Apologies - should have stated that I'm in Lucan, and typically, NTL have upgraded every development around here but mine, which is quite ironic, given that its only 2 years old, and as such must have pretty good quality cabling.

    Thank for comments.

Not defending Esat or anything but technically that is true: there is no cap on Esat's residential ADSL product.

    Why?

Because it does not now nor has there ever been an Esat residential ADSL product.

There is a ADSL offered by Esat themselves that does not have a cap but this is technically a business offering although they are very eager to sell it to residential users.

There is also a residential ADSL offered by a subsiduary of Esat called Ireland OnLine that does have a cap (5GB - enough for pretty much anything one person could possibly do - except download, legitamitely of course ;) movies).
