    Interesting rumour from Mediabullet:

04/09/03 FOX planning to launch UK channel
US Broadcaster FOX is said to finalising a deal which will see a new FOX entertainment channel launch on Sky in a few months time. The channels schedule is likely to consist of programmes from FOX's archive, such as The Wonder Years and LA Law, as well as some new programming such as American Idol 3. The new channel will still have to compete with other broadcasters to get the rights to show new programmes from FOX. The as yet unnamed channel is expected to be located at the lower end of the Entertainment section in the EPG.

What a scoop! A new channel will be put at the end of the entertainment EPG. Talk about stating the obvious.

No, the lower end - that would put it in a prominent position with the likes of the Beeb, Sky One etc.

Apparently the ultimate source for all of this is today's Broadcast (which you may be able to pick up on Monday in Eason's O'Connell St. There is a website broadcastnow.co.uk, but its subscription-only (though they're offering a free subscription until Sept 12th at the moment).

Personally, I think its cheek of Fox to want to launch in the UK after blocking Sky News US - then again, any Fox channel that launches in the UK will probably be a pale imitation of the US broadcaster (just like NBC Europe was nothing like NBC itself, bar the logo).

I'd say it will probably be a lot like Fox Spain/Portugal/Italy showing only old episodes of various 20th Century Fox productions. In saying that, they do have some good shows on Fox Spain but they are always old seasons that they screen.

nothing wrong with that, as long as it wouldn't be 24 hour Pop Idol stuff

Here's an idea for Sky. Charge me a small amount extra (say €5) on top of my monthly sub. Then let me manage what channels I want to receive (via a website, say). I could probably take 2/3 of the channels available away (and not lose out in any way). Do we really need any more crap channels?!

We'll probably have to purchase AC/DC adaptors for our remotes with all these extra channels as it'll be sore on batteries! :D:D

I was just reading on digital spy that the new Fox channel will be called FX. This is the cable channel in America that shows The Shield. The Shield is a good cop show on CNX. With CNX rebranding to Toonami, hopefully FX will pick up shows like the Shield over here. The report on DS also says that they will show reruns like The Wonder Years - which would be good to see again.
