    Hi Folks
As a relative newcomer to boards i was wondering has any thing been set up to bombard $KY , UTV ,CHANNEL 4 with e-mails?
If it has been done does anyone think it is time to do it again?
I for one have friends ,relatives who although arent members of boards are sick of of not having these channels on $KY and if asked would be willing to help.
Would love to hear what everyone thinks!

"Bombarding" them would be considered a DoS attack.

well being computer illiterate it wouldnt be a dos? attack from me
and DEFINETLY not MY parents! i meant in the traditonal sense of e-mail sceptre.

    "Denial of Service"

    Not "Disk Operating System"

An organised "bombardment" of these companies with emails would be a DoS attack. You don't necessarily need to know the inner workings of a machine to be held responsible for the result of its use.

We've had this kind of discussion on the IOFFL board before. There are legal precedents for holding the organiser of such a "bombardment" legally liable.

There's nothing wrong with letting Sky, UTV and C4 know that your life is empty and unfulfilled without the two channels. UTV have an idea of that already by the way. I would /strongly/ advise against any form of organised bombardment.

Well i find the statement that my life is "empty and unfulfilled" insulting. As i have already said i am a newcomer to boards and from what i have seen it is a great place to say what you think and to be insulted by a "moderator" is sadening.
All i was trying to do was ask everyone else who read my post to tell me what they all think of what i had to say.
I have 2 kids and a great wife so i can tell you that my life is anything but "empty and unfulfilled".
Back to the subject i posted about, my missus had to go over to her friends house a couple of weeks ago to see her niece on some programme on utv(cant remember the name will find out if anyone wants to know!)
She (my wifes friend) lives 8 doors down from me.
My wife as everyone who subscribes to sky finds this annoying.
Bombarding, in my mind , is everyone reading what i i had to say and then deciding if THEY wanted to e-mail sky channel 4.
I apologise if there have been discussions before on this subject
as i have said i am new to this(computer 2 months!)
As have already said i find this site boards a fantastic place for free speach ,but insults by the people who help to run it are disheartening.
    hope to hear everyones views.

Er, that's not what I meant and I'm rather disappointed and surprised that you decided to read it that way. I didn't insult you. I was just letting you know we had that type of discussion (email bombardment) elsewhere on boards.ie (not on the satellite forum - where I'm not a moderator by the way), not accusing you of not making the effort to see if the subject of UTV/C4 had been discussed. I didn't even bring that up.

    Apologies if you felt insulted.

    Hi bishop brennan,welcome along.

As you may understand there is a lot of TV politics involved in UTV appearing on Sky Digital. As I summed it up in this thread, Sky's greatest chance of continued growth here is the fact that they do not have UTV or Channel 4 to offer. The cable co's continue to harp on at this fact in their advertising. A lot of people have Sky and cable, and they only keep their cable so they can continue to watch these channels. Channel 4, I cant understand why they are not, E4 and FilmFour are on Sky Digital here already, but UTV may be blocked by Granada, being in the dominant player in ITV and major shareholder in TV3, as so much of TV3's prime time programming is also aired on UTV . Although UTV are itching to get on Sky Digital in the Republic, there is no chance while TV3 is owned by Granada. Maybe, if UTV, along with the rest of ITV, opt to follow the BBC's lead and leave Sky's encryption, that we will be able to get UTV on Sky Digital.

So that's why its not there, and not for the foreseeable future.

    Now, onto Sceptre's comments.

There is nothing wrong in what sceptre said, what he is saying is that Sky Digital would be complete with UTV and Channel 4. A lot of people want those two channels, as they like them, and don't want to be without them. He definitely was not questioning your marital status! A bit of an overreaction there, I feel. A lot of people are peeved that UTV and Channel 4 are not there. And Lord knows, we've tried, and have run into the proverbial brick wall in getting more info. But that is where we are, and that's the way it will stay. I feel no amount of barrage will change this.

I admire your enthusiasm. I was the same when UTV disappeared from other channels in early 2002, mailing broadcasters asking why and act now. But because of the replys and the new politics of ITV, the door was shut after the horse had bolted. As Mossy pointed out, we had the campaign. One campaign here was indirectly successful (the BBC one), so I feel that in the long term, as I quoted above the best chance of getting UTV and Channel 4 is to wait for them to leave Sky's encryption, and that is just on the horizon, but that process could be 12 months away.

    Regards,

    DMC.

I think we got BBC FTA in spite of that campaign myself, or the two things were totally unconnected.
When Greg made his decision earlier this year, I don't think pleasing the Irish Nation was very high up in his agenda.

I as a matter of course regularly let Sky know that I am not satisfied with their service. The absense of channel 4, UTV, Channel5, and ITV2 from the Irish line up being among the main bones of contention. I get the usual inane non commital useless reples from Sky. The point is though, these e-mails need someone in Sky to reply to them which takes up time & resources and reminds Sky execs that there is a problem. The more people that e mail Sky about this issue the bigger the perception of the problem becomes and better the chance of this issue being addressed by sky
I accept the dangers of organising a bombardment campaign, but individuals who wish to e-mail sky on this issue should be encouraged. It cant do any harm and may speed a solution

Bombarding these companies with E-Mails only weakens the quality of response to genuine people with proper structured specific queries. They end up automating the replies which is useful to no one. Dont do it , it doesnt work.

Handwritten snail mail is more likely to be read and taken seriously.

There is "politics" more than "rights issues", though rights is part of it.

BBC did arrive as pay TV long before it went FTA. But really only hope of UTV is with ITV leaving Sky pack and being FTA. (They are already on Astra2D, so NO transponder change needed).

C4 seem to be not sure what they are doing even in UK so Ireland is low on list at the mo.

Five is nearly 100% certian to become a Sky Pay TV channel, EVEN in UK, so likely to be on Sky Ireland too then.

WE are in a transitional stage part provoked by BBC going FTA and part provoked by Sky's attidute regarding FTV on Type 1 FTV cards and Type 1 expired UK sub cards.

    Wait And See!!!

No message of doom last night or this morning.

Ring up Sky customer service 3 times and i nearly promise you that you will get a different response every time, thus proving that people at Sky don't seem too concerned

As Watty says an old fashioned letter tends to get a much better response than e-mails. However e-mailing tony.ball@bskyb.com gets good results too.
