I've got an Ulster Bank 'Dual Card' and want to know if I can use this in Belgium.

Does it have Cirrus or maestro or something similar on the back?

afaik it only works in the uk, and the aib atm card works all over europe but i'm not sure about that. your best bet is to call ulster bank and ask them.

No, It's got a blue logo with 'LINK' written in red at the bottom right corner of the back.

BTW, any of ye signed up with Ulster Bank Anytime (internet banking)? WTF is a passphrase - I cant remember being given one at all.

Yea, gonna ring UB later tonight to get my passphrase and to check about using the card abroad.

If your ATM card has the "Plus" logo on it - it's in blue with an inverted scottish flag like logo - then you can use it in an ATM abroad displaying the same symbol. I've used mine as far afield as Canada and the Czech Republic.

    the simple answer is yes.

if it is a link card, then it will work in most atms.
after all, ive used my banklink in ireland, uk, scotland, oman, uae, holland, belgium and france. thats in the last 24 months.

AIB Charge, as I'm sure most banks will, 3 Euro or something similar to use your card abroad.

    John.

P.S. If you put lots of money onto your visa/mastercard you wont be charged.....

Link isn't used as much as Cirrus, the best thing to do is ask for Cirrus next time you're getting a new card.

I was under the impression that all of their newer cards are Cirrus, but I'm also stuck with Link for the moment.

Link = Most UK ATM's, but only in the UK. Look for the "LINK" Logo (blue with the word LINK in red)

PLUS = ATM's around the world. (White with blue triangles making a diamond shape)

Cirrus= ATM's around the world (Blue Circles similar to the Mastercard symbol)

If you card has the above, you can use it in those places.

Lump, I think you only get charged the £3 if you use a credit card. If you use your ATM card you just get charged 1% of the total, minimum 1 euro or 1.27 euro)

Just stating the obvious – Link is also in wise spread use in the Republic (ie Ulster Bank and their partners).

In PR of China and HK..

Bank of Ireland Cirrus ATM card - No problem
AIB Link/Plus (has both symbols) - No problem
    BOI mastercard - No problem.

just make sure you use an ATM in/near an aeroport, hotel etc.
    or any HSBC bank machine.

Belgium will not be a problem.

    tribble

My sister's using her BOI Cirrus Pass Card in the US at the moment, and getting charged €3.17 a go. That's IR£2.50, which was what I was getting charged when I was using my card in France & Spain in 1999.

Tried to use my LINK in Italy, didn't work but didn't know about the whole 'LINK' bit until now. So i should have had a look around :o

Mmm, perhaps my statement only applies to AIB cards for certain then :/

When your using bank cards in ATMs abroad, it can cost a good bit to use the card each time. Pull out 300 blip roughly a time and take out what you need for boozing and leave the rest at home.
