Only just found out Athlete are playing at the Village at the start of October.
Been a huge fan of the band for the last few months so I'm hoping they're be some bit of a crowd there.
Alfie are supporting along with some other band that i cant remember (the Repairmen maybe?)

Yeah, think it's Repairman. Definitely goin'! Mercury prize winners are being announced on Tuesday, guess they have an outside chance at 9/1.

Anyone heard the new Alfie single yet btw? The album's out next week. Saw them playing a Twisted Nerve night at Whelans a few years ago (along with Badly Drawn Boy, Andy Votel, Mum & Dad)and was well impressed. Missed them at Witnness a coupla years ago though...

Cool.Glad someone finally replied. Was getting worried there was gonna be no-one goin, from what I gather Athlete dont have too much of a following. Not one of my friends knew who they were before I started going on about them.
Although thinking about it one of my friends does have both the Girls Aloud album and Justin Timberlake's album. Since he's a guy maybe i just keep the wrong company :D

Only realised the other day I have Alfie confused with AFI. Dont think I've heard any of Alfie's stuff. What are they like?

Yeah, that might be because they're cockneys and not scousers ;)

    I sSee...

as Ladbrokes close the book for before tomorrow night's ceremony, Athlete have moved into joint second favourite at 5/1 alongside The Darkness.

Favourite for the mercury music prize remains Dizzee Rascal at 4/1.

When betting closed the prices were as follows:
Dizzee Rascal - 'Boy In Da Corner' (4/1)
The Darkness - 'Permission To Land' (5/1)
Athlete - 'Vehicles And Animals' (5/1)
Coldplay - 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head' (6/1)
Radiohead - 'Hail To The Thief' (7/1)
The Thrills - 'So Much For The City' (8/1)
    Martina Topley-Bird - 'Quixotic' (10/1)
Lemon Jelly - 'Lost Horizons' (10/1)
    Floetry - 'Floetic' (12/1)
    Eliza Carthy - 'Anglicana' (14/1)
Soweto Kinch - 'Conversations With The Unseen' (14/1)
    Terri Walker - 'Untitled' (20/1)

The winner of the 2003 Mercury Music Prize will be announced tomorrow night (Tuesday September 9th) at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Central London.

Think the winner's announced around 10.30pm. It's live on BBC Radio One if you're online/got digital.

Wow, i remember seeing some odds a few weeks back and Athlete were were like 6th favorites. At that stage The Thrills were heavy favs i think.
Whats the general opinion on the Thrills with proper musics fans?

The Amp (Sky Ch.469) have been showing vid's from all the nominated bands. Never heard any of Lemon Jelly's stuff before but that "Nice Weather for Ducks" track is insane. By insane i mean feking great mind :)

You can guarantee that any favourites to win won't be walking away with the prize (thats Dizzie Rascal, The Darkness, Athlete, Coldplay and Radiohead). The Mercury Music Prize like to suprise people, but it might be different this year - I don't know...

I just hope the outcome of this prize will be good as you won't stop hearing about the winner for the next six months.

and the favourite gets it. Well one of them - it's Dizzee Rascal

No outside surprises this year so. See ya up the front for Athlete and The Darkness?

    Just heard...

Athlete are talking live on the phone to Rick O'Shea on his show on 2FM tomorrow night (Tues) between 8 and 10pm.

Good stuff. A mate mentioned that they were gonna be on 2fm but he wasn't sure when.
I'll be doing an mp3 of that for sure.

Less then 2 weeks to go now!!!

See Athlete have just been nominated for the Q Award for Best New Act! Winner will be announced On Oct 2nd, 2 days before their gig at The Village.

Other nominees are The Thrills, The Darkness, The Rapture, Athlete and Kings of Leon.

I can't see anybody beating the Darkness for that award anyway.
Was damn surprised to see Blur nominated for Best Act in the World Today and Best Album. Never thought Think Tank was that well received by everyone.
Good to see Feeder up for Best Album too :)

Don't know, The Darkness are up for Best Live as well and they have to get that one!

Love the new Blur album, I think it was a bit of a slow grower for a lot of people etc, looking forward to seeing them in December. Haven't seen them since the RDS. And that's a while ago now :-)

Oh aye, think Rick O'Shea said he's got some more Athlete stuff on the go next week - copies of the albums are in the goodie bag for those that don't already have it

Trying to track down some Repairman stuff meself... Sounds like a Lemon Jelly approach to playing live, two fellas running around playing all the instruments ('cept doin' it faster)
