Just saw this months Empire. Alien the 1979 masterpiece directed by Ridley Scott will be re-released this Halloween. Digitally remastered and with new footage.

    Yay \o/

Also found this from sci-fi wire :

Ridley Scott, director of the 1979 classic SF film Alien, told SCI FI Wire that an upcoming extended version of the movie will restore a never-before-seen three-minute sequence. "The scene really explains what happened to Dallas [Tom Skerrit] and the others," Scott said in an interview.

At the time of Alien's original release, Scott said that he cut the scene to speed the movie's pacing. But upon reflection, Scott said that he is now happy to put it back. "I think it seemed to slow down the dynamics, and now, looking at it, I thought, 'Well, actually, it doesn't.' I think we didn't give it a fair shot then. [Now] I think it works." Fox will release the new cut of Alien in theaters on Oct. 31.

This is the same version of Alien that will be released on DVD as part of the 9-disc Alien Quadrilogy set, so I reckon the cinema release will be more of a promotion for the DVD set than an an "actual" release. I'd be very surprised if any cinemas in Ireland showed this.

    w00t :D \o/

this film is the same age as me and it still stands up against all of the new special-effects-laden sci-fi films. I wonder just how much "cut scene" stuff will end up in the film.

No doubt it will be a limited release. Still anyone who wants to see it should be able to do so.

Uhmm wont those scenes conflist with the events in aliens

    for those who dont kno
the events that were cut show the alien turning dallas into an egg which completes the alien life cycle but thats removing camerons alien queen etc that the other films use.

guess they can xplain around it...

There is absolutely NOTHING Scott could do that would do more damage than Alien 4.

true but my policy with alien4 is i watch it uptil the bit when ripley is captured and then turn it off and watch the the final scene from aliens. that way it feels like a better movie without the newborn......

The good news is that both Scott and Cameron are working on the Alien 5 script with Scott directing.

I know there's an Alien vs Predator movie inn 2004... that's not wahat you're on about, is it?
there's a 9-disc set coming out? I feel ill... I already have the Alien Legacy DVD box set (the 5 disc anniversary one)

There is NO Alien 5 as of yet. Cameron and Scott are consistently asked about this and they consistently say that, given a good script+time, they would love to do it. That's quite different from ARE doing it.

Instead, settle for 'Aliens vs. Preadator' which is heading for a 2004 release with next to no involvement from anyone previously attached to the series. It was, last time I heard, set in an Antarctic research station beseiged by both predator (on a hunt, natch) and alien. The character outlines posted on darkhorizons sounded woeful but maybe it'll change a lot over time....
