Bit new to all this satellite stuff. Currently an NTL cable subscriber. My Parents have Sky (and NTL for ITV, C4 etc...)

Should I go for NTL again or SKY ?

sky has more channels but doesn't have ch4/utv

sky can be installed almost anywhere in the country where ntl digital is restricted to certain areas

I take it you have ntl analogue & are not sure about getting either ntl Digital or Sky.

It really depends on if you want to keep UTV & Channel 4.

    1. If you want to do what your parents are doing (ie. paying for Sky digital & for ntl analogue) it will cost you a lot.

    2. If you get ntl Digital you will be able to watch different channels in different rooms & record one programme while watching another (providing one of them is by analogue). It will also be a lot cheaper than no 1.

    3. If you don't care about getting UTV & Channel 4 or not you could go for Sky digital (but you will only be able to watch one channel on all tv's at a time & will only be able to record the programme your watching).

Yeah, but thats not with a Sky digital sub is it ?

Do you need another box for that other than your sky digibox?

If later you want to save money and Cancel the SUB....

    Sky Digibox:
BBC, maybe ITV soon, TCM, Vault/pop, Chart Hits, Euronewss, Sky News, ITV News, CNN, BEN, Performance, Classic FM TV, Extreme Sport, reality TV, Motors TV, etc and 55 Radio.

    NTL (digital or Analog):
    ZERO

If your cable segment goes past a Vandal, no NTL in middle of important program.

I have four sat receivers running, I just turned off a Digibox and took down a dish as the others are enough. No sub at all.

On house distribution to all TVs:
(1 to 4 are aerial feed)
TV Ch 5: PC based receiver with Onscreen Remote, Hard Disk record/Playback. 670 TV and 590 Radio free approx from autoswitch 4 LNBs/Satellites.

TV Ch 6: Digibox: 70+ TV and 55 Radio. About 15 decent free TV channels.

Analog 13E: BBC World TV. Occasional Arte/TV5/DWTV. Various Radio. About 14 TV channels

Analog 19E: CNN. Occasional Eurosport, MTV, etc. Various radio. About 35 TV channels

I buy DVDs instead of Sky Subscriptions, cigarettes and other costly addictive things. So we have our own "Film Channel". Last "Watty Network" premier was "Mark of Zorro", so we may re-watch "Mask of Zorro" this week.

Satellite is easy to take to a caravan, new home or holiday cottage, you might need a very long extension cable for NTL.

If these channels go FTA then it is a no-brainer as to which way to go..

But if you want BroadBand and live in an NTL area - then this is also a no-brainer..

You could of course buy a video - those barcode ones - set it up in thier house. Download 3of9 barcode font - put an asterix at each end of the code and post them the stuff you want recorded..

Stick tape in - beep - beep - beep .....
