Not a good deal considering Panther is just around the corner. You're not trying to finance the new release by any chance by selling the previous one?

I'm suggesting that it isn't a good deal, considering that there is a high probability that it will be superceded by an updated version, for which we will all have to pay regardless of which version we currently own, within a couple of weeks, and that 120 euros is highly overpriced.

    I feel vindicated.

Panther ships on October 24th for 129 euro.

    huh?

i ended up buying that off shabby for a machine that isn't going to be upgraded past 10.2 anytime soon - got a great deal too - thanks shabby

not sure why you think everyone would rush out any get this - i know many people still on 9 (with kit that can handle the 10.2 upgrade) and a few still on 8

i'll still be getting 10.3 for this machine though - and perfect timing - visiting Chicago so hope there will be some fun at the downtown Apple store :)

Just wandered in here off the front page, not a Mac user or anything but I was in Chicago a few weeks back and out of curiosity and respect for the way cool designs that Apple come out with I made a point of visiting the store on Michigan Ave. so I feel somewhat qualified to say:
Don't expect much in the way of hot deals, prices in there seem to be all RRP. I was hoping to get a good deal on an iPod but alas none to be had. Fabulous shop though, rows of Macs all unlocked and online. Shop was full of people checking their e-mail. I can't imagine such a place in Dublin with the price of bandwidth here. I won't claim to be too au fait with the pricing of Mac stuff but I also found a CompUSA shop nearby with posters promising to beat any Apple price, might be worth a look if you are buying anything. It's on the street parallel to Michigan Ave. if you walk out of the Apple store and cross the street and over one block.
The 10 gig iPod was about $400 iirc and before you think exchange rates think Illinois sales tax of 7% added to everything unless you get them to ship it out of the state for you. Shipping it also runs a higher risk of being caught for VAT and duty coming in to this country btw.
If this is no help then I'm soory to bring bad news.

in June they were laying the wet cement at the front of the shop - so missed the opening by just over a week :(

spot on about the pricing - around the same as the online store then add the state (and city!!) tax - but still a bit cheaper than buying it off the shelf here - and much nicer environment too i bet (compared to doing the same thing in Compustore's Mac shop here ;))

the comp usa has a lot alright and really central location - so usually divert in there and pick up a bargan alright

hope you enjoyed chi-town - did you get to see a Springer show - i wanted to see one last year but the significant other wanted to see Oprah and won the argument - thankfully it wasn't too girly a show :p

Sadly I was only there for a one day stopover on the way back from a business trip to the west coast but definitely a city I would like more time in.
The store cannot be compared to ANYTHING in Ireland. Just imagine a Grafton St. Apple store! Six deep with kids trying to look at porn on the net. Not to mention the internet cafés moaning that nobody comes in to check their e-mail. The yanks for all their faults are a good decade ahead of us. Stop into Starbucks for a great coffee, whip out the laptop (with wifi) and surf away while enjoying your coffee! What a country. What amazes me is that nobody seems to abuse that particular service. Between my honeymoon over there in January and the recent trip I think I saw one laptop and maybe four Jornada/iPaqs in all the Starbucks I was in, and I like my coffee. If I was ten years younger I'd weigh anchor tomorrow and emigrate!
