Argh - why won't the laptop connect through the router?

OK. I've set up my PC with my DSL Modem/Router - QTec 584AA. It's working (am with Netsource). This I know, because I'm posting. However, my friend is trying to connect his laptop into the modem with no joy.

Now shouldn't you be able to just plug into the router and go online? Is there anyway I could have accidentally set it so only myself can go online? I mean he's on the router - I can ping him - but maybe there's some DSL setting I don't know of? When he tries to connect...well nothing happens. Should he, for example, have to even create a dialing connection or what settings should he use, if any? I honestly thought he could just work straight away with it...

    Help appreciated :)

On my router I can list what it considers to be connected devices, maybe you can check something similar?

Anyways, most likely the problem is DNS related, i.e. the laptop has hardcoded DNS settings that don't work with your new setup. I would go through the TCP/IP settings on the working machine and on the laptop and make sure they are identical.
