Line rental query -

    Just a quick query.

I pay line rental of 22.50 euro a month. On top of that then I have to pay say 66.5 euro to Netsource for the use of their broadband?. So total cost then is 89 euros?

I take it line rental is not included in the price of broadband.

I have done a search for line rental and didn't get a proper answer.

    Thanks

To get an ADSL service from Netsource, UTV etc., you must have an Eircom phone line (analogue, not ISDN).

    Monthly rental is currently €18.59 + VAT@21% = €22.49

There have been many many discussions about line rental.
As iano has stated you gotta pay for line rental.

Its like booking a holiday home in greece. You may have the home bu you still need to get there by plane. (best i could come up with :p )

Actually, if you get Esat Business ADSL you can ask them to take your phone line from Eircom completely, and Esat take responsibility for it.
Of course, you can't have a voice line then, the line is just for the ADSL, but if you don't care about that it's a way of avoiding paying Eircom any money.
    That's what I did anyhow.

    Hey Quaalude,

If Esat take control of the line and you lose the voice capability, does this mean you don't have to pay a coimparable monthly or two-monthly rental? Or is there any reduction? If it is just the satisfaction of not paying eircom, surely Esat are paying them?

I thought that this could only be done at esat enabled exchanges ... and line rental was just reduced by x amount ... €16 rings a bell but I dunno for sure.

    Hey captainpat -

I pay nothing to €ircom now. In fact, the last bill they sent me was for minus €30! I'm not sure how to get that back!
I am no longer an €ircom customer; I guess maybe Esat pay my line rental, but a reduced rate.
I only pay the €109 or whatever to Esat for ADSL, and that's it.

As far as the exchange thing goes, I don't know much about that.
I'm on the Beggar's Bush exchange in Ballsbridge.

But surely you can only move over to Esat once your account details are "sound" with Eircom.

I mean I've done online Line tests with my brand new eircom number and Esat say im cool for DSL but Eircom say I am not.

    Funny.

    Hey XPThink -

I guess you're riight; when you check out with Eircom, then you can move.
My voice line wasn't new, so that wasn't an issue; I was an Eircom customer for 5 years (paying only line rental).
The guy in Esat said hardly anyone ever drops their voice line - "99% keep it".

They'll send you a cheque. They owed me 25 quid recently from a cancelled line and I got it thru the post. Very odd feeling to actually recieve money from eircom for once...

Just shows you what a hold Eircom have.

I mean I have to wait for them to get back to me. 3 weeks they say, 3 f!cking weeks to wait for a line test because of my new account. Even though the line is there already......Logical?
