    oh my god!!!

i cant believe that, i lived just like 1 away from there for years and loved that place. went to see rocky horror there once too, was great, wonder where all the regulars will go now.

reason i liked classic so much was that it was great for smoking, drinking and getting stoned in during a movie cos no one ever went there so no one to complain!

actually i found the UCI to charge just the same as the classic, and it worked out cheaper during the day to go to UCI then the classic!

Yeah, I just live up the road from it. I never got to see the bloody Rocky Horror Show - always meant to, but never got around to it - and now it's over! Can't belive it.

Looks like the Stella in Rathmines will be getting some extra business now! Hopefully they will renovate it a bit so it won't be like going to your mate's run down flat in the 80's! They might even get rid of the gob stain on the screen!

    Boog.

Man they should leave the classic and shut down the Stella! I've lived in Rathmines for nearly 3 years and I went to thw Stella for the first time a few weeks ago. The place it like a morgue with a big TV... The seats are manky, sound is terrible, and it has this horrible old person smell to it...

I don't understand these places... such an amazing catchment area, very little competition, and they are ****holes throwing away business...

(weird - could have sworn I posted this yesterday)

I find it a little hard to believe that noone wants to take up the lease on the Classic. From the guy's report, business has never been better, the problem is that he can't find anyone who wants to take over and run the cinema.

Which is odd, because everyone I've spoken to about this says they'd love to run a cinema, if they had the money. People with money generally only invest in things that are going to make more money for them, which the Classic is reported to be doing already.

How much are leases on these things anyway? I'm sure if everyone on here chipped in EUR10, we'd be able to buy it. Think about it guys.. our own cinema. Any takers?

Without the Classic and the Rocky Horror Show where are the swingers going to meet up of a weekend. I can't imagine Ster Century looking too kindly on Joe Blobs in the back row during The Lord of the Rings. :D

I personally will not be hugely affected by the closure, but I heard that it was being bought by a private investor who is saying nothing about its future. I personally believe it is to be restored and about time too, it never was the most glamorous of places anyway...
