"Subscribe to PoutTV in the U.K., the porn channel on Sky for a fiver. They will send you card. Don't say you are in Eire, you need a UK address to send it to."

    Taken from Digital Spy

I have a v1 FTV card at the moment and I know I we are about to lose the channels but I really want to keep channel 4.

    So is the above possible?

I guess it's a rhetorical question, as ifyou've read the DS thread it's obvious that a number of people have done it - you would have to have a contact at the original address to which the FTV card was registered though, as it is they who will receive the new card.

Have tried it with NASN using my old FTV card at my sister's address. Will keep you updated. They tool my old FTV card number but not switched on yet so expect new card in the post to UK address.

Pout is cheaper but "er indoors" wasn't too happy with giving a porn channel my Irish credit card so went with a NASN sub and will hopefully see some baseball as well for 2 months.

Min sub is 2 months (can't cancel until you get the card and need 30 days advance notice to cancel) as so total cost will be almost STG£30.

NASN is tame - north american sports - nothing as cheap as pout though.

    Setanta might work.

I've just bought a digibox off eBay for a friend - I'm hoping that it will work with the card that I should recieive from my failed PoutTv registration of yesterday - used an old FTV card number and the address to which it was originally sent.

Remember though a cancelled sub card has always worked as a FTV card till now, nothing whatsovever is stopping Sky repeat the same game with type 2 FTV cards and type cancelled Sub cards in 2 or 6 months.

There is no reason at all to turn off Type 1 cards other than Sky wanting more subscribers. So if they get a good percentage of the 360,000 ... 700,000 possible FTV /cancelled sub type1 cards they are likely to do it again when "enough" cancelled Type2 subs are out there (They'll not bother on basis of the 59,000 FTV type 2 cards, I suspect).

So bear this in mind when parting with money for subs to get a Type 2 card.

At the moment the ONLY sure thing is that Sky decide "all the rules"

Sky/NDS own *ALL* the cards and always have.

I suspect ITV and Sky of playing "Chicken". It's 2nd September and most Type 1 FTV cards still running. They are now running "dual" encryption (which Sky claimed they couldn't), which is why the cards don't get Customer or Welcome channel.

Pull out the card if watching Sky news! Apparently some of the small number of actually turned off cards "block" Sky news as well as ITV, Five and C4. Since Sky News is FTA, pulling out the card fixes that!

Viewing in "interactive" fixes C4 message of doom, so only Five and ITV are really a problem with the every 15 sec "message". Sometimes it will stay away longer.

As long as Sky think more people will phone and subscribe with the message on a working ITV/C4/Sky News/Five than if they stop the old encryption (thus rendereing the card usesless as it can't do the new encryption) the present situation will continue.

One question rovingrover or anyone else.

On the NASN site it says you have to subscribe for a min of 12 months at €14.99 per month, have you got around this , if so how ?

    Thanks

Couldn't do it via the web - so called the UK number - said I only wanted to sub until the end of the baseball season and the call centre monkey still tried to stiff me for a 12 month sub - it costs a couple of quid more to sub on a month by month basis.

1st guy offered to cancel my sub effective from 60 days but 2nd guy said that wa snot possible - had to call back as my FTV card number was apparently invalid and double checked it.

It may be possible to sub for 1 month but they require a months notice so i think you can't - will cancel when I have everything working and will watch some of the baseball to justiofy the outlay.

Watty's point is of course valid and Murdoch could switch off the new cards at any stage but the UK government will make some efforts at least to stand up to them. Interesting that the current type 1 cards are still on. I think it is SKY and the British government playing chicken. I even wrote to my MP (FTV card address ) :D

    Just a thought.

This subject about v2 ftv cards has been discussed from every angle, and quite a few good suggestions have been put forward on ways around this whole sky lock-out of itv/ch4/ch5 for irish subscribers. But heres the thing , it seems to me that ye are highlighting the loopholes for Murdoch, therefore making his job a lot easier..................... as I said, just a thought.:(

got my new card and installed it on saturday morning - worked straight away (came in an envelope we're sorry you were having trouble with your card).

Now the interesting bit - NASN did not work on the card nor has my credit card been charged yet.

Fingers crossed that it may have come through for free.

Has any one else tried to subscribe to NASN with a P1 FTV card?

There is a thread on DigitalSpy on how to get a card through Pout by doing a failed registration

Yeah you could be possibly right, but that's why there is a fantastic #icdg IRC chatroom! Sadly, very few ICDG regulars use it, but it would be ideal for such discussions! ;)
