Digital vs Film camera

I'm heading over to Oz in October for the year, and was wondering which is the best camera to take travelling.

I already have a digital camera (Fuji Finepix A201) and was thinking of bringing it for the year...its an OK camera but not great at indoor pictures (I keep getting red eye and mad circular blotches?). It would be handy to have the pictures in digital form though. I've only got a 16mB memory card which doesn't hold much, so I'd have to buy more memory when I stopover in Thailand.

But then again, I'd probably get better quality with a film camera. And the pictures would probably be cheaper to develop than getting digital pics printed out.

So my question is...should I take a digital or film camera on my travels for the year?

Why not take both ..... surely they don't take up that much room :) But if you can only take one and the digital doesn't get good indoor shots , if you think alot of your pics would be indoors then I'd take the film camera . Plus take into consideration the resolution of the digital, will it give you the shots you want outdoor without loosing detail ? The lack of memory for the digital is also daunting , 16 MB doesn't give you many pics! Right now the only thing I see going for the digital ....... besides the fact that it's digital is the fact that you can delete the photos you don't like/ want and you can't on film. I'd say take both .....but if that wasn't possible , stick with the film :)

Personally, I have a preference for film when I'm going on holiday.

Quality is still better than digital.
If you break a film camera abroad, you stand a better chance of getting it fixed quickly (depends on where you are).
Film is cheap and be bought anywhere.
You can always scan them when you get home if you want them in digital format.
And of course, the slide shows are great fun!

    But what about the cost?

    A film costs €4.50-ish
    Development costs €6.50-ish

So when you come home from a 3-week Parisian and Italian experience the cost to get to see the results of 15 rolls is exhorbitant!

I haven't carefully compared, but I'm sure a mid range camera could give acceptable pics when combined with a decent printer, and for less €?

Anyone know if it is better value?

    It is what it's.

there is a company online that will develop digital films for €0.20 per pic [normal size ones],the address excapes me now but ill post it when i get home [at work now].i would personaly go for the digital camera, and if you want hard copys i would send them away to be printed off as its cheaper and easyer than doing it yourself
