can anyone explain why a two photos cut and pasted together
have a property size in multiples of the size of the original two.
i cut and pasted two photos that had a combined property of 26k,
the resultant picture has a property of 14mb.
    baffled.

It probably changed format from say a *.jpg (the image is made up of a limited number of similar areas) to a *.bmp (every pixel has it's own colour information) or went from say 256 colour (each pixel can be one of 256 colours) to 16 million colour. Try saving the new file as the original format.
