RTE's answer to BB: Celebrity Farm

Saw this in the Irish Independent:

RTE'S latest reality television show, 'Celebrity Farm', will see eight Irish stars pitted against each other in a format blending 'Glenroe' with 'Big Brother'.

After the mishaps at sea with 'Cabin Fever', RTE is sticking firmly to dry land for a new week-long show to be broadcast for an hour each evening on RTE 1, starting on September 6.

The eight - four men and four women - will spend a week on a farm battling it out in the hay shed and the milking parlour for the public's vote. The celebrities will compete for a €50,000 jackpot for the charity of their choice.

Among their tasks will be tending to livestock and spreading slurry.

RTE said last night it did not plan to name those taking part on 'Celebrity Farm' before they appear on the 'Late Late Show' on September 5.

However, one star strongly tipped to be taking part is Adele King, otherwise known as Twink.

Boyband manager Louis Walsh said he had been approached to take part but had turned the show down.

"They only contacted me last week, but I'm very busy at the moment and, to be honest, most of the people taking part in such shows are at the end of their careers or are trying to revive their careers. It will certainly not be A-list celebrities, more like C-list," he said.

However he added: "If they got the right people they will have a good show."

Other celebrities named in one Sunday newspaper as having been approached to take part were former Boyzone star Mikey Graham, singer Brush Shiels, and independent senator David Norris.

Senator Norris said last night: "RTE rang me and asked would I do it, and I said no. Apparently they let out that they had asked me but didn't let out that I had said no."

"It's for charity, so I wish them all well, but I'm extremely shy, and really I find these type of shows terribly vulgar and intrusive. I did offer to do 'Aladdin On Ice' in the nude, with or without Twink, but they did not seem interested".

A spokeswoman for RTE said she was not in a position to say whether all the celebrities taking part had yet been signed up.

However, Tyrone Productions, which thought up the idea and is producing the series, said it was in negotiations with a number of people and these were "more or less" completed.

A spokeswoman said one of the reasons the names of those taking part were not being released in advance was to maintain the surprise element.

Filming will take place each day and will be edited down into an hour-long programme. The first programme will be broadcast on RTE 1 on Saturday, September 6, at 9.30pm.

Oh sweet Jesus. And I thought they'd screw up the BB thing but this.. this is a whole new level. I...I'm pretty much lost for words...

    Personally

    Biddy
    Ann Doyle
    Bibi Basken/Marion

    Men:Joe Duffy
    Mick Lally
    Gerry Ryan and
    Yer man from Wanderlust.

    And presented by Derek Mooney

These celebrity shows never have A list stars. Louis are you an A list star?

Oh well they shouldnt bother with it before it happens.

I am suprised Tyrone actually put this forward.

Let's try and take a positive outlook here. Farms can be dangerous places. How about, for a task, they have Gerry Ryan clean the blades of the combine harverster whilst Twink operates on the engine.... :D
