Will expand on this a little later but the intoxicating liquour act 2003 means that cheap drink promotions will now becamo illegal !!!!

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

They can still do the promotions early in the day or give free drink.

You could also just go to the off-licence.

Is this just a rumour floating about town or have you heard something specific?

(I don't mean that as a smartypants question btw, I don't go out drinking much)

There are a few ways around the restriction if I've read the legislation correctly (I just gave it a quick read). The legislation prohibits the sale of cheap drink at special prices at specific hours during the day (not specific as in "particular", specific as in "limited and specified"). So bacardi breezers could be put on promotion for the whole day but only sold between 9 and 10 on the night of a promotion for example. That's really stretching it to be honest and may not be practical for publicans. They can continue to do the free tickets for prizes including beachballs and beer though.

Yup its true but the club/premises has to stay over 21 or under 21 and enforce it i.e if they go over 21 they can't decide to only have over 21's one night of the week and under 21 another night of the week.

As for what clubs in limerick are going over 21 i dont know.

But I cant see many clubs doing this at all.

trinity rooms/redroom will so go over 21st
    icon/smyths will more than likely
    sin bin, will
    teds, will
market wont as its has total student trade
alot of the cool pubs will also go over 21st. this is just pure crap its just going to mean that most of the people that go out [i.e students] will just go to someones house or a house party and drink soo much more and more regularly because its cheaper. they should leave pubs do what they want, open 24/7 if they want. if you make it really hard to get drink it will just make people want it more, if you have a look around europe more places you can drink when your 15 or 16 and there are no closing hours. they have less binge drinking and less of a drinking problem. this is getting stupid the gov are telling us what to do more and more ,if an adult wants to go out and drink all night its there choise and if they dont harm anyone its there own business

Yeah from what sceptre was saying is right. The main reason behind this act was to curb an intensive period of drinking, particulary early on in the evening i.e. happy hours.
I organise a lot of student nights out and we've still no problems getting good drinks promos.
