Zyxel problem

I got my Zyxel Prestige 645R-A1 from Netsource on Thursday and my line has been activated. I have hooked up the modem to my laptop, modem is ethernet, but I can't seem to communicate with it. The connection shows as active in the OS, WinXP Professional, the status shows packets being sent but nothing being returned. The 100Mb light is on, the DSL light is on. According to the documentation the modem/router IP is 192.168.1.1.
I called Netsource with my problem who then told me I had to manually enter an IP of 192.168.1.2 and a gateway of 192.168.1.1, that didn't work. I called again and a different guy told me it should be 192.168.0.2 and a gateway of 192.168.0.1, that also didn't work. He then told me to do a reset which I did, still nothing. I tried calling again, around 6 times between 6pm and 7pm and got no answer, I guess they all went home early or something.
Has anyone seen a problem like this before, basically no matter what I try, DHCP or manual IP I cannot connect to the router through the web client or through telnet and nothing shows on the network status as incoming packets, just outgoing.

You did setup the router through it's configuration utility?
ie entered the vpi, vci numbers and username, password?

You didn't mention if you did this.
If you did then try this.
    Ping 127.0.0.1 - this tests TCP/IP
Ping 192.168.1.1 - this test communication between PC and router
Ping indigo.ie - this tests communication between router and the internet.

post your results for more help.

ps - if you look through the manual and see if the router can do an OAM loopback test this will test communication between you and the exchange. This is also helpful.

Tripple you seem to be pretty good in networks and stuff so i'm asking my question here even though i shouldnt.
I got UTV a few weeks ago but i have 3 computers. So recently i bought a router/modem, Only thing is my IE is very very very very slow and i dload at 700"bytes" lol. Game pings are fine though and if i put the zyxel modem from utv back on IE works fine so wuts th dealio?
router and internet=58 ping o% loss
    tcp/ip= 0ms (0%loss)
    computer to router= 100% loss
O and i forgot to say on the 2 other computers IE is fine
    Thanx in advance
I hope u can figure this out for me

Is there a console port on the back of the router? If so, console in and double check the LAN settings of the router.

Sorry, let me get this straight. You can download (albeit slowly) with the sick machine?.
Yet, there is 100% loss between said computer and the router?(my instructions for the pc-router test we specific to Kernel32's router - your router may have a different ip, thus it's abilty to function while failing a ping to 192.169.1.1)

Download, Get-Right - then paste this URL into it (file, enter URL)
    ftp://ftp.heanet.ie/mirrors/ftp.debian.org/debian-cd/3.0_r1/jigdo/i386/debian-30r1-i386-binary-1.iso

what sort of speeds are you getting? (you can cancel the download after a few minutes).

    Tribble,
The modem was supposed to come fully configured according to Netsource, I was supposed to just plug it in, connect it up and start surfing. They did also supply me with all the setting on paper which has come in handy.
The address was supposed to be 192.168.1.1 according to the zyxel manual and Netsource but it does not respond to pings telnet or http, all the led's light up as they should including the DSL light but it does not return any packets of data.

I do have an update on my problems. Saturday morning I booted my laptop I got a cryptic error in lsass.exe while booting which then went into a loop of error and reboot, not very pleasent. I have no idea why this happened, all I was doing on Friday was messing with TCP/IP. I rebuilt XP on Saturday and retried the modem with exactly the same problems. So I went out and bought a Zoom X4 ADSL Modem router. I hooked it up and could get to the config through http no problem, I put in my settings and now I am happily surfing on ADSL:)
The modem Netsource sent me seems to be problematic so I am going to send it back and get my money back, to be honest I don't care why its not working at this point, I am a little p*ssed off at Netsoures lack of support though but I am happy to be off dialup.

    Glad you got it sorted.
    Now I need your recommendation:)

The Zoom X4 unit work properly with Netsource?

    I ask because
    (a) I need a cheap and cheerful DSL routher.
    (b) Netsource won't work (stalls at negotiation) with various modems.
    (c) I'm sick of playing 'diagnose that problem'(tm) with Netsource tech support.

    Cheers,

The local IP address of my router is 192.168.0.1

Subc, try pinging your router at 192.168.0.1

    plazz2000,
I tried 192.168.0.1 based on a netsource service person, didn't work, they are giving me my money back as well which is good.

    tribble,
I am using the Zoom X4 right now, its been working all day with no problems, setup was simple as well, so far I am very happy with it but thats just based on 24 hours of uptime, hopefully it wil keep humming along.
