I have a small Business network.

Can I buy the eircom starter DSl which is 45 per Month (which is meant to be for a single user single pc) then by a separate DSL router and allow all of the pcs to us this connection.

If this is possible can you tell me the simplest way to do this.
Any router\ Hardware recommendations would be appreciated too.

    Cheers,
    Humphrey.

    Hi,

Order it through a re-seller and you can avoid the biddies and all the other hassel. We have installed it in several places, tbh eircom corperate don't give a fiddlers what ya do with it. :)

    Thanks,

    Paul

Yes, the set up you're describing is not a problem. I have the i-stream starter (45/month + vat). I have the telephone line hooked up to a dlink-504 router and have two pc's running off that router, each of which can access the internet connection. The dlink router assigns IP addresses to the internal network (can take up to 4 connections), and the router then connects to the DSLAM at the exchange. I have a WinXP machine and Win98 machine sharing the connection without any issues.

So the answer to your question is , yes you can.

just so you know thats against the Eircom rules to do that. If they find out they can cancel your contract. But they'll only find out if either A) you tell em B) someone else tells em or C) You call in a technician cos your having problems and you leave them both connected and he notices.

Eircom's Starter pack comes with a router as standard (1 Ethernet port, 1 USB port). Just plug it into a hub (maybe 40 Euros) if you need to connect more than 2 PCs.

My arse. So it's against the "rules" to have more than one telephone coming from the same connection ? Bollocks man. Show me in the contract where it says that.

Its the USB+Ethernet version of this router:

Can't link to the place on the Eircom website that says it as it doesn't seem to allow links to be copied and pasted (!)

just remember that there is a cap on that package and with multiple users, I'd say it would be easy to go over the limit
