Ok , so im heading off on my travels fairly soon and ive decided that a digital camera would be a good idea.

Now should i get it here or is Bangkok great for that type of stuff ?
Can the equipment be trusted over there ? Would i even save myself much money by getting it over there ?

    Im looking at getting a Fuji Finepix A202 , which i can get here for 170 , 210 with a 64mb card.

So what should i do ?

when in Bangkok , visit a place called 'Punthip PLaza' you can get there with the skytrain and then take the cab (very cheapand quick transport)

Punthip Plaza is like your mega-mall here in ireland with a twist.
It's a 4 story high building full of little shops selling everything from Porn to camera, portable dvd players, loads of Pirates and so on. I have bought my Asus videocard and a portable dvd player, both still in excellent condition. Prices... hmm wouldn't really say it's much cheaper then lets say ..Uk or Germany (nothing compares with ireland , sorry.)
But Punthip, plaza is a place to experience :)

Directions: Take Ratchathewi sky train exit. Walk up to New Petchabiri road, make a right. Walk about 1 kilometer and it's on the right - look for a pedestrain overpass going into a a mall.

I'm heading over to Oz in October for the year, but stopping off in Bangkok too.

I already have a digital camera (Fuji Finepix A201) and was thinking of bringing it for the year...its an OK camera but not great at indoor pictures. It would be handy to have the pictures in digital form though. I've only got a 16mB memory card which doesn't hold much, so I'd have to buy more memory when I get to Thailand.

But then again, I'd probably get better quality with a film camera. And the pictures would probably be cheaper to develop than getting digital pics printed out.

So my question is...should I take a digital or film camera on my travels for the year?

hard too choose ? take them both ?!
you can buy memory cards everywhere, just watch the prices.
they tend to vary a bit too much.
digital is often smaller in size and are easy to conceal or carry around , SLR (i do prefer) are better quality if you have the lenses.

I purchased my digital camera when in Thailand last year and it worked out about €150 cheaper than I could find in Dublin. The memory cards were ALOT cheaper - so go for a nice big one.
The camera I bought was the Nikon Coolpix 3Megapixel
But of course the models keep getting better/cheaper all the time
