This one may have been addressed before but my pc is really slow while I have the broadband switched on. Its a bit strange because the network activity is minimal and the cpu is 97% idle. Not using kazza or any of that stuff.
Its the same with two of my mates #.

    Any ideas ?

Make sure you have the latest virus defs and patches from microsoft.
You're symptoms sound like the worms doing the rounds at the moment.

do what DaithiSurfer said and get yourself a firewall it's essential if you have broadband

First, get yourself an antivirus, make sure you have no virii, second get yourself a Firewall (i recommend Kerio Personal Edition availble at www.kerio.com). Thirdly download Ad-Aware to make sure you have none of that nasty spyware on your computer. THat can suck up bandwidth.

If you've got a really low spec computer you might see an improvement if you get an ethernet modem instead of a USB one.

You could also try and download Spybot and remove all the spyware from your PC. Thats what was slowing my one up fer a while.

Have an XP 2200 - so it aint a slow machine.
Have a DLink 614+ , using it as the firewall.
Will get a virus scanner and see what the story is there - cheers.
