In the new issue of the sky magazine they are advertising Sky + for €300 with €75 installation. Still €15 a month subscription though.

They have had a very low take up from what I hear. If they got rid of the monthly charge then this would sell.

Did I not read (on boards) recently that sky were dropping the €15 subscription from October? Had a look but couldn't find the thread...

i think it was just a rumour.
Seems that some people have called sky and they said they will not be dropping the subs charge.
Why not wait til end october anyway to see if they do.

in all fairness they are not going to get rid of the monthly charge.

Then hopefully no one will sign up for the service.

I'd sign up again if they dropped the monthly charge, not otherwise.

Well, I'd get it even if they had the box priced at €600, and no monthly charge.

it seems the monthly recording sub is keeping lots of people away. myself included. it is pure cheek for them to ask for it IMO

Echostar have the equivalent of a Sky+ (won't take a Sky viewing card, but will receive BBC).

No monthly rental. You buy it and it is bought.

A bit tricky to upgrade Hard Disk on I hear.

    Expect lots more before Christmas.

With DVD burners built in now they are heading for < 100 Euro OEM price.

( I paid 3 times more for my 1st CD writer than a DVD writer is now).

Tell me about it. I paid £125 for a 2X CD Writer way back. You can get 52X for €50 now. Wish the price of a Pint went the same way.

Well then the product will not sell, what makes you think that commerciality reality will not force them to drop it.

dvd recorders are coming down too..
seen one in argos for €499

wont belong before it drops a good bit more, but still i think i would prefer sky+

i have to weigh up keeping sky sports or getting sky+ (Note: for the purposes of this comparisson I am ignoring the cost of a new sky+ box)

Sky+ is excellent. Well worth the initial outlay and €15 per month is not too bad.

The fact that you can watch one thing while recording another is priceless. Using Live pause you can record two things at once (sort of), and the full dual recording functionality is coming later this year.

Unfortunately not, I was importing directly from Uk but sky put pressure on the distributor and "asked" him to stop my supply. I do have one which i kept for a customer but he has not been in touch in weeks! (i know i should have asked for a deposit).

Sorry i do not have better news

With the dual recording, will it make a difference to the amount of ordinary digiboxes (with an FTA/FTV/Mirror sub, or whatever) you can hook up at the same time to a quad LNB? Two and a Sky+? I presume that the dual recording means that you have to watch one of the channels that's recording?

Or something that you have already recorded.

The Sky+ requires two inputs from the dish. This is not changing, so there are two free outputs available for other boxes.

Yeah, that's what I thought it would be. Cheers!
