So there i was a few evenings ago, wondering what i should do. 'Ooh, i need to sort out a mail server, dont i..'. Yes indeed. I vaguely recall saying 'This shouldnt take too long' as the idea fully grasped me.

    Uh-uh.

Here i am a number of evenings later, with multiple failed installs of qmail behind me. Ive followed a few how-tos (life with qmail, the docs supplied with the port etc etc) with no success. Can it really be so hard to get qmail working in freebsd? Apparently it is.

So.. im looking for a foolproof (Moriarty-proof, if possible) walkthrough of how to get a qmail install (i dont want to have to install 50 trillion seperate packages, just qmail damnit!) from post-installation to a fully working state. Its no longer really about wanting to get a mail server running, its now me versus qmail. Quite possibly to the death.

    HOLY WAR ALERT!!!

I was under the impression that doing /anything/ with FreeBSD was really that hard :)

Still mail servers arn't for the faint of heart

I think to the death is the most likely. To be honest I've only seen one qmail solution. Try an IMAP server such as Cyrus instead, theres far more detailed howto's and support. I think it should be included as past of your install CD's as well.

I'm going to assume after your issue last night your installing this on a FreeBSD box, I don't use qmail but have done in the past, the following url was pretty useful
