IOL BB Connection Woes

Rightly or wrongly I've signed up to IOL's BB service. Upon receiving my modem and installing it I found I could connect to the server no problem, use Kazaa no problem but I couldn't browse web pages at all.

The friendly service staff told me that there are a few customers having this problem (they said around 20). They're working on it. It's been two weeks.

Anybody else suffering form this? Was it solved? Any ideas what the trouble is?

    Ta.

they told me that aswell 2 weeks ago
    its complete bull

    replace your tcp settings

    go to control panel
    network
select tcp/ip - dial up adapter and click remove
    then click add
    protocol
    microsoft
    tcp/ip

and you should have no problems surfing - it worked for me!

I am one of the people with this problem. I tried replacing TCP settings and it didn't work. However there are two TCP adapters, one normal one, and "VPN Support" one.

Einstürzende, should I try this trick with this adapter also?

    Hey there,

I've been suffering this PITA problem for the last four weeks..since I signed on..see my previous posts regarding same. I also tried the "fix" mentioned above and I'm afraid all it did for me was completely mess up my settings and cause me to have to re-install...with great difficulty..the broadband software. I'm running Win98SE so maybe that makes a difference.

I've been getting the almighty run around with this ..and they've made sure to debit my bank account for the full cost of the package plus two months in advance as normal..and everytime I call they say they are working on it as a priority ..has been given a Global priority...whatever that means...

the latest thing was someone from tech support was meant to email a fix of some sort but of course it never arrived and when I called earlier the guy I spoke to was very dubious that there was one yet ...

Anyone find a fix that works please post it ..cos I am seriously annoyed with this and wishing I'd gone with Eircom now ...

sorry if that didn't work for you, it worked for me, and i have no other ideas of what to try, except go to their HQ...!

and yea, that software was horrible to install, kept crashing my comp no mattter how i did it! was useless!

Yup. I tried your advice too and still no dice. So there's at least three of us who are suffering from this problem here which leads me to believe there's more than 20 people who have it.

Did they they give you the install price back Midnyte? Plus two months free? Did you have to fight them for it or did they offer?

Anyone have any idea what the source of this problem is!?!

    No such luck pete.

They made sure to take the money out only a few days after I was activated..which is fine..if the service works...but highly annoying when it doesn't. Needless to say..a promised phone call failed to materialize today...and it still does not work..so I think tommorrow I'm gonna email them and demand my money back and tell them to come and take their modem away. I don't think over 4 weeks..and probably more since I assume I wasn;t the first one..is good enough to sort this out. Is a pity cos I've dealt with them for over 4 years and never really had any trouble...until now...which is why I've been prepared to let it go so long..just have to start looking at alternatives now..damn..and I was so looking forward to going Broadband...:-)

    Hi,

Can you ping an IP? 217.114.170.92

    Try ping www.eircom.net

if the first passes and the second doesn't it's obvious what the problem is :)

    Hi,

Success at last...I'm sure anyone else with this problem has probably already been contacted by IOL ..but the nice people from Systemhouse Technology on behalf of IOL sent me a program called Drtcp and walked me through the settings and voila !!..cured the problem ..Thank jaysus for that ...now I can surf and download in peace...all I have to do now is make sure I get my months credit and a free month for the bother from IOL...

    Cheers .... :-)

I was in the same boat. Just a heads up to anyone still having problems, Dr. TCP on its own didn't work, it required a reinstall also for me.

midnite, i have to run a ping test every few minutes to keep my line active, seems to go dead every so often (so i leave it pinging permanently in background) any way you can send me the program they sent you? or is it too large?

Yeah..sure I can send it..just give me an addy and I'll send it there..wasn;t big at all...I did have to ring the people who sent it though..though I'm not a techie ..guess if you knew what you were doing would be fine...
