What kind of info do you want?

You're gonna be shagged on insurance.

You have to be at least 16 to drive anything up to 125cc.

You have to be at least 18 to drive anything bigger.

If you live in Dublin, you'll be paying at least €2000 per year to insure a 125cc machine until you hit 21.

You must do a Theory Test before you can apply for a provisional licvence.

You must do a practical test to get a full licence.

    There are 3 licences -

    M, for mopeds (upto 50cc)

A1, for small motorbikes (upto 125cc)

A, for all motorbikes. You must be at least 18 to apply for this licence.

Have a look at bikes you may like.

www.bikeworld.ie has some useful links to manufacturers.

Then go to http://www.hiberniandirect.ie/ and secure yourself a quote based on what you'll be at 16 (ie, provisional licence, unexperienced).

    And presto! :)

Word of warning the government are talking bout raising the minimum age to 17 inline with the EU regulations, not sure if or when it's gonna happen but it's something to look out for.

As far as bikes are concerned go for a category 2 bike if possible eg. Yamaha Virago 125 (bit slow but a lovely bike) or suzuki gn 125 has been released recently in category 2 standard type of bike like what couriers drive in the city, probably faster but dosen't look as nice

im looking for a more super-moto style bike. not really a racer/super sport style....

KMX125 or DT125 - best small trail bikes on the market.

However, be advised you cannot ride a 125 until you are 18. You can ride a <50cc moped from 16 onwards.

Can anyone tell me if I can drive a Yamaha XMax 250 as a learner? I am told it has to do with the power output and not just the CCs.
