Ive been wondering if any of the uber-geeks.have had a chance to check out the 2.6 beta kernel yet. Unfortunately i dont have a spare computer to mess up but there seem to be interesting features such as this new ' virtual machine' architecture to allow users to access virtual hardware and software resounces, apperently increasing stability and usability. Sounds great, im sure the current beta test is totally buggy but would be worth giving a blast nontheless.

    Some linkage

also note the topic about copyright material! seems a bit crazy.

    if u just can't wait!

I've played with test1 and 2 and can say that they are blindingly fast but very, very much test kernels.

Test 3 is apparently much more stable and complete, however I only know one person running it, who has a PhD in computer science. All my own compilations have so far failed whenever I try to include support for my laptops WiFi card.

Nice to play about with, but for production systems I'd stick with 2.4.21 or 2.4.22

    Regards,

    Ben

    bodonoghue@Vader:~$ uname -a
    Linux Vader 2.5.72-xfs #2 Sat Jun 21 16:28:25 BST 2003 i686 unknown
    bodonoghue@Vader:~$ uptime
    17:30:32 up 26 days, 6:24, 2 users, load average: 0.21, 0.43, 0.40

I'm running 2.5.72 with an xfs patch, it's relatively stable & I need the hardware support [1]

If you want to run the 2.5-2.6 strain, then you will need to upgrade modutils.

    [1] Stability mileage may vary.
