How Long will it last ???????????

Anyone know how long the version 2 FTV Cards will last for (2-3 years if like the old cards). However, there has been some talk of Sky yet again upgrading the software? Is it true that they have stopped issuing the FTV cards now?

ANd maybe there is a good chance C4, 5 and ITV will be forced to go FTA as opposed to FTV. However for now, this means that people who have got a digital reciever but do not subscribe to Sky in the U.K will not be able to watch these 3 channels shorthly.

On that note ! if the FTV Card goes bang, then how possible is to get a sub in the U.K. Who says that if you subscribe to the U.K package , and have an address in the U.K why not just give them your bank details here, obviously through a sterling account. Has anyone tried this, is it possible to set up something like this????

This has been discussed to death.

Basically, no-one is certain how long V2 FTV cards will work for.

You can no longer get them officially (of course you can get them second hand on ebay and the like).

ITV will probably go FTA next year. Unlikely for Channel 4 and five.

Not too hard to get a UK sub, no need to go mucking about with sterling accounts and banks, just use a credit card to pay the monthly sub.

    Near 800,000 FTV/lapsed sub Type 1 cards
    About 59,000 Type2 FTV/lapsed sub cards.

Turning off even Type 2 cards is entirely up to Sky. They can do it when ever they want. They don't have to wait for next card upgrade. The Encryption Upgrade is a red herring.
