Heading to Killarney in mid September with the girlfriend for a few days as i finally got some time off work. Going to be staying in a fancy 5 star hotel on a lake. However, i have never been to that part of Ireland and wondering of anyone has any tips for places to eat and see etc ? I will be driving down so will have full use of a car.

    Thanks.

Defo go to Dingle and Slea Head, if the weather is good, Inch strand for a dip, some walking in the National Park is good too. I liked Cahersiveen and Valentia.

As for nightlife, anywhere the locals go to, otherwise Avoid_diddle_de_idle_o.

Yea, DMC's advice is good. Must-sees are dingle and slea head (head over the conor pass if weather is clear). The ring of kerry is good (quite a bit of scenic driving), kenmare and valentia are really nice areas to look around.

If ye want a good bit of craic then the pubs in dingle are great, but definitely follow the locals as they generally know the best places to go.

Is it the hotel europe you're staying in by any chance? Its overlooking one of the lakes there in killarney, a few miles outside the town. I was there a few weeks ago and its beautiful. Food and everything was top notch.

As a tralee girl myself I don't know much detail about killarney but I'm sure you won't be stuck for things to do.

Good stuff. Looking forward to this a lot as i havent had a day of work for ageeessssss. Yep Wyvern, we are staying in the Hotel Europe, was told that our room might be upgraded to a room with a view of the lake. Did you get an upgrade when you were there?
Will be trying to stay as far away from the diddle_de_idle_o stuff as possible!

    Any recommendations of restaurants?

nah, i wasn't actually staying there. My mum and I just fancied a nice meal and ended up there. Then had a good old wander round the hotel. Its run and owned by Germans, really really beautiful interior and its very peaceful. There's even a herd of palominos in the front pasture if you're into that kind of thing :)

Theres two restaurants in the hotel - a really expensive one (about 30 euro for the main course but they have lobsters!) and a cheaper one which had loads of kids in it (its really nice food though, and reasonably priced). Don't know many restaurants in killarney town unfortunately - stay out of the allegro if its still there - cheap and nasty.

Best restaraunts are Dingles on New St (traditional food) which is fairly good value or Gabys on High St (wonderful fish & seafood, although may be a bit pricy).

    Regards.

Conor Pass is an excellent drive if the weather holds off. As sadi before Dingle is a must see... the aquarium there is excellent and is well worth a visit. Also if you drive the ring of Kerry you will not be disappointed. Beautiful part of the country.
