Does anyone still play the roms.. or does anyone still have a working nes and what were your fav games?

Haven't tried the old NES for years, hope it still works...

OMG Duck Hunt was amazing... Mario 3 was *way* ahead of its time.. I had a game called Adventure Island which I also used to love... Some great Ducktails games too...

    Memories...

Probably better of asking in Emulators 's lounge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

    I loved California Games.
Also the Marios and Duck Hunt, the Double Dragon games and Marble Madness.
There was another game too, where you were a robot type thing (or maybe a guy in an armoured suit). You could play 2 player at the same time and if you pressed one of the buttons you could steal lives from the other player.
Probotector or something like that, ring any bells?

Still have a NES with 27 original games.

Favorites are Mario 1 and 3, Metroid, Marble Madness, Castlevania 2.

Great console, still take it out occasionally.

A list of NES Emulators can be found here
    http://www.zophar.net/nes.html

There are others so take a look at
    http://www.arcadeathome.com

As regards Roms DON'T go asking in the emulation forum as Ronan|Raven or Kairo will ban you as Rom begging isn't permitted.
NES Roms are very easy to find anyway just use google :D If you have any trouble setting an emulator up myself or other regular posters would have no problem helping you out.

The games I remember playing most on my NES (Before it was given away to my younger cousins....bastids) Mario 1,2, TMNT, Contra, Kid Icaris, Bad dudes vs Dragon Ninjas and Zelda II. Classics the lot of them!

I remember these VCR sized consoles alright from the early 90s. My cousin had one and I spent many a good time playing Duck Hunt.
My first console was a nintendo super nes,the successor of the nes, which came out around 1993 or so. I had a game of all the old super mario games from the nes on one cartridge which was class. I think it was called mario allstars. Its funny to think back to the bulky cartridges games were stroed on back then.

Well I should remember it, I have one here, though I cant seem to get it working, might be the ac adaptor.

It used to work just fine! Then I gave it to some b*stard and it came back broken.

In any case I know someone who will take a look at it for me.

Great Console, I must have about 20 games for it. And I have the orignal Light Gun! with duck hunt.

Follow LoGiE's advice, as we can't tell you where to find Roms on boards.ie.

Alternatively, you can pick up dirt cheap carts and even consoles over at Ebay: NES at ebay.

I get all my retro console stuff from ebay (JAMMA boards, megadrive, Saturn.....) it's an invaluable source of retro kit.

My laserdisc player is arriving tomorrow actually ;)

Does anyone not remember the NES. paper boy, the turtles, metroid, off road, the mario series, california games, and ofcourse duckhunt. all brilliant games. kinda overshadowed after a while by the mastersystem release which was also a good console but not as good as the NES

i had a working nes but then a circuit on the board shorted and when you turned it on it kept reseting itself tried to fix the problem but couldnt, so ended up smashing it to bits with a sledge hammer.

wouldnt play the roms, takes the fun out of it

Found the NES, switched on the power... nothing happened...

Took it apart and put it back together again and it started working... And the light gun still works... oh yes :D

Problem is that it takes ages to get a game working... Power light flashes on and off with blank screen.. I think this used to happen to most NES consoles that were a few years old.. I tried cleaning the contacts but it didn't make a difference. Blowing dust out of the games was one trick as far as I remember... Anyone know what else might help?

There's also some sort of expansion port at the bottom which I didn't know about until I opened the case... Wonder what it was for..

For technical info on the console (and maybe some info on that mysterious port) try here

There are some tips on cleaning your cartridges (marginally more scientific than 'blowing') here

Alternatively, peruse your way through this little lot to satisfy any other queries you may be harbouring. :)

California Games was my favourite, along with Mario 1.

Never really liked Mario 2 (that was the one where you could choose to be the princess character I think).

Must try to get my hands on a console - remember I sold it with loads of games for about £50 at the time. Doh!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,518 ✭✭✭Kalina

I had some good games on the NES, what a great console! The best ones were Wizards and Warriors 3, Mission Impossible, Turtles, Paper Boy, Kirby's dreamland and the Mario Games. I had a motor bike racing game called ExciteBike where you could build your own track with jumps and ramps, the best part was crashing. I had a soccer game where you could tackle and kill the other team- the only wa I could score was kill the othrer team amd dribble around dead bodies!! :)

Oh yeah, the NES rocked, probably still does in a Retro sort of way, hee hee.

I still have mine, it's probably too old to flog now, just needs a power supply.

I have Legend of Zelda that rocks, and Elite, California games was cool. Metriod is pure impossible to play(or finish). Roll on the good times.

Oh, anyone want it 50quid load of games.

I didn't have proper NES, rather a 500-in-1 games system which I referred to as a Contra system, mainly because one of the games had Contra with it, but there were only about 80 in total, the others were the same game, except with more lives, starting on a diff level, perhaps a few graphical changes (first Gaming Mods?), but all the same it was quite cool(it had Duck Hunt too!), and best of all it played NES games, so I ended up having a couple of NES games like Mario 3 (used to play that religiously) and Operation Wolf, and I remember borrowing TMNT of a mate, as well as Marble Madness, otherwise I'd be playing Mario 1, Baseball, Tank, or whatever other games were on the chip. Ahh.... The memories... ;)

How many games do you have for it and do you know if it's easy enough to get the power supply?

The NES will never die! Well okay Nintendo recently stopped producing the little beggars but they also recently celebrated its 20 year anniversary.

Gamespy did an article on it recently which you can read here.

I never had as much fun with my SNES as I did the NES. Games like Probotector, Megaman (especially 2), Faxanadu and of course Super Mario Bros. 3, just had such raw playability. In my mind there will never be an age of gaming quite as golden.

We used to have a Sega Master System II.
Daddy took it away after Mammy used to stay up til 6 in the morning playing it and almost burned the house down.
Alex Kidd in Miracle World was a great game....

I got a NES in '91 (still in the attic) and then got the SNES a year later. NES still works but it's a french one (got it cheap on holidays one year) and it only plays french version carts :(

The power adapter with the SNES broke but the NES one was identical.

Who remembers Mario Kart and Street Fighter 2?
And Donkey Kong Country was also quite good.

I can still hum the tune to Level 1 of Super Mario world :D

The super scope was a bit rubbish but looked cool.

I'll give you 30 quid for the Super Nes with Street Fighter 2, or swap for Irish NES with games.

necromancer, i'd be interested in buying the nes off of you, can you list the games. dosen't matter if there in their boxes, but if they have their little plastic black cases it would help. pm me if you think you'll get a bolliking for going off topic. sorry to everyone for going off topic myself, but this isn't in the classifieds.

Ahh the NES was great..Mario 1,2 and 3 (legend)....and duck hunt or course.. when you compare the NES control to todays "super" controls eg Gamecube it looks so primitive.
FYI-Mario 2 was never originally a Mario game...the concept came from a japenese game called "Donkey Donkey Panic" where the characters picked up vegetables and hurled them at enemies...they just turned them into Mario characters for Mario 2...(when you think about it Mario 2 didn't have anything to do with the other Marios)........:ninja:

Hey that's what we do to! Sometimes it helps, most of the time I think it's more putting it in at just the right angle.

Mario 1 is still my all time favorite and also a game called "Mappy Land" (it's about a mouse bring chased by cats--sounds lame I know, but great fun really).

Got my off Ebay a couple years ago. Wish they would bring them back, would love to be able to buy one new.
