It won't be Ulrich. Metallica are playing the Leeds festival on the 22nd.

It's the drummer from Feeder plus Graham Hopkins and Binzer

They're named on the line-up, therefore they are not the "very special guests"

On a side note, Jimmy Chamberlin (The Smashing Pumpkins/Zwan/JP & the Cats) did his first ever drum clinics this week.

The night is billed as "Slane Drummers 2003", so I would imagine that Taylor Hawkins and probably Dave Grohl are the special guests.

On a side note, did anyone go to last years Chad Smith's Drum Clinic? What is it like and is it worth going to this years?

Dave Grohl doesn't drum with any of the bands at Slane this year.

Dunno the name of the Queen's drummer but he was pretty great at their Ambassador gig last year.

AFAIK, last year it was Dave Grohl drumming for them. They might have replaced him by then though.

Dave doesn't drum with any of the bands at Slane this year (while anything can happen, you never know), but he is still a drummer, so that doesn't rule out the possibility of an appearance.

when and where are/were these clinics of which you speak?

they seem to emphasise the VERY special part on the ticket so it must be taylor and/or dave

Man, going to the Jimmy Chamberlin drum clinic would kick so much ass, best thing in the world. It would be better than going to Zwan.

Seems like the members of Zwan have disbanded and are working on new projects...

A Jimmy Chamberlin drum clinic sounds like this: Part 1 & Part 2 (mp3s of his 2nd ever drum clinic).

Pearls of non-drumming related information extracted from his clinics include:
    • that Djali Zwan could be just Jimmy and Billy and they start recording in September
    • that the possibility of a Smashing Pumpkins reunion tour is on the cards, but not for a very long time
    • that he still talks to James Iha and D'arcy
    • and that he's good friends with Danny Carey from Tool.

Rough summary of what it was like:
    • More of a drum show than a drum clinic (eg no audience questions on drumming technique etc).
    • Started with a Graham Hopkins/Binzer Brennan drum battle.
    • Mark Richardson played along to some Feeder and Skunk Anansi tracks.
    • There was an "Air Drumming" competion judged by the audience involving one guy with a mohican hair cut, two girls and one kid, all plucked from the audience.
    • The bloke with the mohawk won easily with an suprisingly believable performance and won a Chad Smith signature snare drum for his efforts.
    • Chad Smith playing many drum solos and together with everyone else.
    • Special guests included Queens of the Stones Age bassist Nick Oliveri, Queens of the Stone Age drummer Joey Castillo, and Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.
    • There was a charity raffle of cymbals (most of which got thrown into the audience by Chad Smith), a bass drum pedal, and 5 platinum discs awarded to the Red Hot Chilli peppers for sales in Ireland.
    • Mark Richardson was the only drummer to sign autographs from the stage at the end.

it was great. I can't believe i didn't even get one of the drum sticks. but I waited outside afterwards with a few others and got autographs from joey, Taylor and chad....they were all happy to give everybody there one. at the end chad stabbbed his drumstick through a snare drum. definetly worth it.
