What do people think of the current standard of public transport maps? To date the only 'comprehensive' public map I have seen was ironicly from the AA in it's mini-guide to Ireland. There was a diagram that showed all the Dublin suburban rail lines and Luas. separately there was a map of Ireland with all the rail and air links shown! I was slightly mortified that no one has ever done anythign like this before. Comments?

PS Oddly, it didn't show ferry services.

The 3 CIE companies produce relatively accurate maps and the OS Dublin street guide shows bus routes (years out of date usually)
It is difficult enough finding out who operates bus services to many parts of the country that CIE don't serve, maps and timetables are almost impossible.

I hope the AA made it clear that the LUAS is not running yet. There are enough tourists driving round in circles due to the lack of proper road signs without adding ones in Dublin searching for light rail lines that are not yet constructed.

ahhahahahhahahahhahahhaaaa. Sorry. While some of the local area guides are quite good, many will have minor mistakes. However these are just laughable
    http://www.dublinbus.ie/your_journey/search_by_map.asp (way too vague)
    http://www.buseireann.ie/site/your_journey/maps.asp?map=d (airport in wrong place).

Actually, the bus routes are usually fairly accurate as they are about the last thing to be added. OS maps usually carry a published date and a bus route date.

But Luas staryed running in the middle of 2003 didn't it? Now that I think about it, no I don't think they mentioned as starting date.

You can get a full set of the DB local guides at head office, they also used to print a full fold out map with all the routes marked.

Dublin airport may be a bit off but it is on the correct route, the map on the BE timetable is more detailed.

I agree that the DB website maps are crap, good city bus maps on paper are very difficult because of the complexity of routes but a good interactive map/journey planner on the website would be very useful.
