Born in Zimbabwe, Rob Nairn is a former professor of law and criminology and was director of the Institute of Criminology, University of Cape Town. He studied psychology and psychiatry at Edinburgh University, and has spent more than thirty years studying and applying Jungian psychology to meditation and spiritual practices. Since 1968, he has studied and practised under Tibetan lamas and other meditation and spiritual guides, including Thrangu Rinpoche, Akong Rinpoche, Dhiravamsa and Joseph Goldstein. In 1993, Rob completed a traditional, four-year enclosed meditation retreat at Kagyu Samye Ling Monastery in Scotland. He has since been teaching full-time, at a variety of venues in Africa, Europe and America. The focus of his work is in trying to provide an access to traditional Tibetan wisdom teachings through the medium of Western psychology.

He is the author of Tranquil Mind, Diamond Mind and Living, Dreaming, Dying.

He will be at Kagyu Samye Dzong Buddhist Centre in Kilmainham from the 16th September to 6th October. See the events page of www.buddhism.ie for full programme.
