when will the rights to broadcast the 3pm saturday matches be awarded?

or has it already been allocated?

RTE and TV3 are in talks with the FA.

RTE have the upper hand as they have more experience of outside broadcasting and more money (If TV3 had more money I dont think their experience would matter some how.)

Question: would RTE's pictures not just be relayed from who ever does the outside broadcasting for Sky or who ever does the outside broadcasting?

I think it would be similar to the highlights broadcaster (currently ITV, will be BBC under the new deal), who gets a feed of all the matches. These feeds are without graphics and commentary.

RTE or TV3 would then add their own graphics and commentary.

Here's a crazy thought. UTV could bid for the rights and use it to launch a new satellite channel for the Republic only. The channel could also show UTV's non-Granada output.

i would of thought that they would use the same graphics that are used on the highlights show. the ones that the Premier League put there. they have a nice look to them this season :)

That would go down well with the Norn Iron community. UTV being better in the Republic than in Norn Iron itself.:D

The premier league graphics are nice I presume they are the ones that RTL 5 uses when they broadcast matches on saturdays, the kinda blue and yellow triangle???

Seen this last saturday while i was watching Villa and Chelsea.

But RTL 5 just left the graphics if it is the case and didnt try to put there own on screen.:)

All of the European broadcasters get their Saturday 3pm matches from Eutelsat W2, where they have a choice of two matches both of which are provided by Transworld Intl. (TWI). English commentary is provided on both games so the broadcaster can choose to relay this or insert their own commentary with just the stadium sound. Both games are always encrypted in Videoguard but the audio is free.

I've seen on Premiere when they show live english matches, that there are 2 options for language 1 is DEU and the other says DEU but when actually selected it gives you the match in English, I've heard Alan Parry delivering his commentary exctly the same as on sky........Do premiere get it from sky?

Peter whats the frequency transponder for Eutelsat?

RTE should not sign anything until the UK part of the deal is properly sorted.
It seems that the European Commission and Labour MP's are objecting strongly to Sky's Billion Pound deal with The Premier League. We could have free live Premiership football yet.;)

Just read this article. What was the point in offering the package in four groups if they were just gonna sell it to the highest (sky) bidder. BBC, ITV or Five didnt get the look in they were suppose to have.

They should have sold the first 2 or 3 to sky and the rest to only allow go to one of the 3.

How is Ireland, when it comes to bidding? do we do battle with the rest or because we are in another country get different bidding rights?

    :)

the rights are for this country only so anyone can bid for them as long as they are available to the Republic of Ireland.

it could be RTÉ, TV3, TG4, Sky, Setanta, anyone. as long as it isnt PPV

i should have said that this piece is my own particular choice. i don't know if they could end up PPV or not

i dont think there would be much market for ppv games on a sat afternoon.

especially as most of the "top" games would have already been allocated to the the silver or gold packages.
