    Pretty straight forward really.
I've just moved my affiliation to Loaded as they have a fantabulous Kelly Brook supplement in this months issue.

Ive been reading FHM for about four years now.
Its better than any of the ****e womens mags out there for sure.
Those ones bang on about relationships and emotion and clothes
    Bah.
Theres a number of reasons why I prefer it :

1)The articles are hilarious. From round the world in 80 beers to last years classic, "The Seven Ages of Woman" ... womens magazines are full of crap.

2)The reporter pages at the start are ten times better than poxy womens letters pages.... i like reading "Whats Wrong with FHM" and seeing people completely missing the point.

3)The FHM Arms are great.... as is Pub Genius....

    4) The interviews with the Girls On The Sofa are good too....

    5) jennas sex advice....... classy

the girls they feature are always wearing beautiful lingerie

The website is better than the mag in some ways.....

Probably FHM although I don't buy it that often, every few months and when Top 100 Women is released:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,274 ✭✭✭de5p0i1er

Gotta be FHM, most of the others never have anything good in them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 68,317 ✭✭✭✭seamus

I'll buy FHM or Maxim if I have money burning a hole in my pocket. Otherwise I just let my brother buy them, and I rob them.

They're reminiscent of Playboy and Penthouse on a less porn level.

FHM is the one that tries to stay high class, plenty of articles and still plenty of pics.

Maxim is constantly trying to out-do FHM and do 'hotter' shoots then ever before. It has the same article idea as FHM, but is smaller, and has less content overall.

    FHM is better.

Bull**** what about the body problems and the cringe sections!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,730 ✭✭✭✭simu

I really don't get why ppl buy these magazines.

I've seen ones my brother gets the odd time and basically the message is "Buy loadsa stuff to be cool and to get girls".

I mean, if you want funny articles, there are lots of free websites for this kind of stuff, if you want porn, you can get much more explicit stuff on-line as well.

    I just don't get it!

I agree with simu - these mags are mindless... teaching all you boys to be good consumers and homoginising your view of what constitutes femininity... beware... they're bad for you...

Bought Maxim the other week cos they had a free football DVD with it... the mag was nauseatingly dull - though the soccer babes were so hot they made me weep... but it's stylised sub porn nonsense and the articles, bar the odd exeption, are generally muck too...

However, I gotta admit I suffer from the zeal of the convert. In my early twenties I used to buy Loaded, Maxim and FHM regularly - it got to the stage where I was feeling bad cos I didn't have the watch, the clothes, the car... or the large breasted cock hungry air-brushed bird... it's a fantasy image of fantasy people they portray - and not a harmless fantasy either...

    Irelands Own - now THERE'S a magazine...

I was a long time FHM reader until quite recently. It's gone downhill a lot and I now find it patronising and dull. The same articles crop up on a yearly cycle and most of it reads as promotional literature anyway.

    Esquire, tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,046 ✭✭✭Dustaz

When Loaded first appeared it was such a revelation. It was the best thing on the the shelves and was the best read youd have all month. The journalism was consistantly interesting and funny and the closest thing to gonzo journalism i suppose we'll get to see these days. The fact that the whole Lad culture was new added to it all i suppose.

Then one day it just got **** and disapeared up its own arse. Pity that. Fhm isnt bad but i agree with robbo that it seems to be very recycled and patronising. Decent women tho :)

    WHy is playb0y not there?

I *do* read the articles ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,309 ✭✭✭✭Bard

Why aren't Bizarre and Jack in your list?

    I'd pick them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,522 ✭✭✭Dr. Loon

FHM... and Maxim. I've kinda stopped buying though, as I agree with Robbo and Dustaz. It's the same shít every year. Also, I recently moved house and couldn't believe the sheer volume of mags I had.... bleedin' hundreds.... and the weight of the bástards.

Bizarre is just filth, kinda like front.

    My personal favourite.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,446 ✭✭✭bugler

I had a couple of issues of Club once...someone stole them. I don't buy it nearly as much as I used to, but FHM still entertains me. Limited experience with Loaded, didn' care for it tbh. The rest I've only read very little or not at all.

I don't buy mags too often but when I do its generally FHM i'll get. Has the best reading in my opinion.

Maxim, is nothing but silly pictures, and adverts.

Weak-minded people of my gender buy them so they will know which bird it is currently fashionable to fancy. This way they won't end up telling their mates in the pub what they wouldn't mind doing to Kelly Brook, only to suffer the humiliation of being jeered at because she has become "so last week" without them realising.

The publishing houses are all laughing at you good little consumers. Women's magazines have existed far longer than men's magazines. When they decided they wanted to double their readership, they just got Cosmo, ripped out a few pages on relationship advice and fashion, lamped in a few pages on soccer and cars, removed a few ads for moisturiser, and added some for beer. Hey presto - you've got FHM! Of course, nowadays they can pretty much run the same ads in either magazine, what with more girls drinking beer and more "lads" moisturising...

Oh yeah, and you're right Simu - you can get far superior porn on the web. Once you've tried hooking up to the 'net with a USB2 groinal attachment, you really can't go back to a magazine.
