    Hi all;

    I posted recently about setting up a simple wireless home network.

    I was just wondering if anybody could tell me if I'd be better to get Windows XP Pro or Home on my new laptop, from a networking point of view. I'd prefer to go with XP Home, purely for cost reasons, though the operator I was talking to at Dell said I'd be better with XP Home, especially if networking. Could anybody enlighten me on this? Is it simply a trick to make me spend more?

    Thanks,

    Chris D

    Depends on what you're using the home network for. If it's simply for sharing files between the machines and sharing an internet connection, than XP home should be well enough to handle it.

    However, if you want more sophisticated and secure user authentication, as well as having a server, then you're better off with XP Pro.

    Personally, I'd always go the pro route, but that's just me :)

    Yeah - it's just for sharing files, a printer and a net connection between two computers.

    As a matter of interest - what other differences are there between Pro and Home?

    Thanks,
