I am hoping to install redhat Linux9 during the week, but can't seem to find Linux drivers for the Zyxel modem that IOL provided. Does anyone know a solution to this problem??

Depends on if the ZyXel is USB or ethernet attached. If it offers both, then linux-wise you'll be best off using Ethernet because then you only need drivers for your network card - the IOL configuration can be entered using the graphical Internet Druid utility on RH9.

Since i'm still on ISDN myself i haven't tried this out, although when i got the ISDN line I was still using Windows and the USB Terminal Adapter refused point blank to work in Linux so I switched to an internal PCI card.

Tried to get one of the USB 'Zxyel Prestige 630' working last night for a friend. Found code on sourceforge in 'pre-alpha' status. It didn't even begin to compile. I'd go for another modem. Ethernet sounds good but I have no experiance here.

Same problem here, have installed mandrake 9.1 and there is no way to get that zyxel modem to work.

like you said only drivers available are in alpha stage and Zyxel doesn't plan to release some linux driver for it anytime soon.

What would be the cheapest alternative? I checked at komplett but they didn't seem to have any adsl modems

Would this one work with Linux?

Buy an ethernet adsl modem. You will have no hassle with it.

Yup, it's the one I use. itdirect were out of them so I got it from elara. If you've got a network card that's working properly, all you gotta do it plug it in and you're done. Will work for windows, mac, linux, bsd, solaris....whatever OS you can throw at it.
