    09/08/03 RTE continue carriage talks with UK broadcasters
    In an update to the ongoing saga involving Irish TV stations joining Sky Digital, we received an "update email" from Irish broadcaster RTE, who have confirmed that talks between them and UK TV stations are still taking place. The full email read: "At the moment RTE is engaged in negotiations with UK broadcasters about the provision of a channel which would broadcast Irish originated programming, replacing the service formerly delivered by Tara Television. There are outstanding issues which need to be resolved before this can happen, but we are confident that, given time, these problems can be overcome and a service to Irish people in the UK can be resumed." It now looks more likely than ever before of Irish TV arriving in the UK, whatever the case keep it with us for regular updates.

    I'm sure RTE would like to have some juicy foreign ad revenue given the amount they're losing to E4 & Sky One (and others).

    Don't know why they'd need to talk to "UK broadcasters" though if the channel is showing Irish originated programming only. Unless by that they mean "Sky." There aren't all that many shows that RTE have managed to sell the UK or satellite rights to in the past few years so unless they want those back, can't see the need for talks with UK TV stations at all.
